With my KH 80, they turn off reliably after 90 minutes, and also will wake up seemingly at random

Coming to the thread late. Hope there are still some of you reading this.

Q Acoustics M20. Turns off automatically after 20 without signal. So far so good.

But after it went to standby, it won’t wake up automatically when music is played.
The only way is to turn them back on manually by pushing the button on top of the main speaker (or with the remote, which only works from very close distance).
Since I have these as remote speakers (or rears?) on an elevated platform (not easy to get to) it is super annoying.
And there seems to be bno way to bypass the auto standby mode other than maybe by using the outdated USB-B input - and if you don’t connect the main speaker directly to a computer (mine is fed by a Wiim) the USB-B may not draw enough power anyway?

I can’t use the Wiim’s sleep and alarm/wake-up functions with these speakers - if they won’t wake up, I won't either.

What really annoys me is that once I powered them back up manually, they not only have forgotten their volume setting, but they also need to be reminded how they’re connected (in my case currently via optical).

Reading reviews about similarly priced/sized powered speakers I have to assume that the M20 is not the only model suffering from this issue.

I’d be super interested to hear from someone who has found a solution for either waking them up when sound is played, or for bypassing auto standby.
Also, if you know of speakers with somewhat similar build and sound qualities like the M20 that are not plagued by this, please share.

Thanks!

My passive speaker's signal sensing standby works just fine.

MartinLogan reQuest, the power supply to charge the electrostatic panels turns on when it thingks the amplifier is sending some music to be played.

8030C and 7040A, used as PC speaker, never have a problem
Update 2 years later, still work like a charm daily usage, music and gaming, very sensitive

Passive is not an option for me, and for most passive speakers there’s no power up involved anyway.
According to Q Acoustic’s support the M20 simply does not have auto power up.

The only brand I’ve read about so far that seems to hold up with these features seems to be Genelec. But Genelecs are in a significantly higher price bracket.

Does anyone have experience with other small, powered speakers (well built, good sq) where auto-on/off actually works - or at least can be bypassed and set to always on?
Please share! Thank you!
