Does using cheap vs. powerful amps benefit planar magnetic headphones?

Adding more "juice" to planars helps their performance.

Hello. the soul of the question is on the poll, so ill use this text to share my case irl.

i want to buy Fiio jt7 and am puzzled as to how to go about feeding it the power it needs. for around the same price, (40$) i can afford the Crinacle AP6, or the Magni 3 *used.

which would be best? Obviously they differ vastly in form factor, and i wish to set that aside for this comparison. could the magni 3 drive the cans better? i would use them for mixing so every last bit of sound quality matters.

request: if u picked No in the poll please link some factual evidence that proves it is so.

You will benefit only if you can't get enough volume without pushing your existing amp into distortion. Planars tend to be "power hungry". But I don't know about the jt7 and I don't know how loud you listen.

Just remember, the job of an amplifier is simply to amplify (unless it has tone controls or EQ, etc.).
