Does the CIA make people disappear?

There's probably no need to modify typical smart devices: The software is designed to collect data for the purpose of making $$, and I dunno that they're particularly secure. And device makers really, really want us to synchronize our data to their cloud.

And then there are today's connected automobiles, which is pretty much all of them:

Through a series of twists and turns, my dad was in the “private intelligence” business. He passed a few years ago and was long retired, but what might be more interesting is what the three letter agencies engage the private sector to do!

I found revelations from ex-CIA agent John Kiriakou stunning.
It is not unknown that government agencies/authorities, including in the USA, have purchased incinerators with a combustion chamber of at least 1-2 m³ and firing temperatures exceeding 3000°C.
Normally, specialized companies are contracted by the government/authorities to handle the disposal, often with appropriate supervision.

So why are such specialized incinerators, which turn everything to ash, even tungsten, needed?

I had some milk chocolate bars in a drawer of my kitchen cupboard.
They've disappeared too. I initially suspected my wife, but she doesn't like chocolate.
Or maybe it was me, but I don't remember.
I'll check YouTube to see if there are any videos about this kind of incident.

Had one take a shit on our living room rug once.
I stopped short of posting a photo of some ursine scat from our, umm, homestead -- but anyone curious (or weird) enough can find it on flickr.
Spoiler alert: it was, indeed, not in the woods.

They don't need to go through all that trouble to hack your smart tv. 90% of us have cell phones. 60-70% have wearables. I've seen targeting packages that used the data in your wearable to know what floor, what room, and what SIDE of the bed people sleep on. Don't forget it also tracks your deep sleep patterns so it's conceivable to plan a raid while you're in your deepest sleep. Makes you wonder if counting your steps is really worth it eh?

This is far less likely since television sets aren't made in this country. I doubt the tariffs would provide much incentive for overseas manufacturers to comply if such a "request" was made by the US.
Bezos and Amazon are in a completely different position...
Have you heard the one about the exploding pagers made in Hungary? Everything can be bought and sold in today's world.

At ~4:20 in this video, Mr. Kiriakou outlines the extreme lengths that Israeli operatives went through to get exploding pagers into the hands of their enemies, which included establishing a supply chain, manufacturing, even marketing.

Not sure if the CIA makes people disappear, but Danny Ritchie make people's money disappear though.
