Plugging the port should fix that shmoo around 1KHz, too.

Or maybe he's asking price/performance level in which case the Stage 170 comes into view along with many, many others. The Stage A130 by itself is missing an octave or 2..

It's almost like asking for a recommended speaker list by price point..wait...I've seen 1 somewhere ;)

For $200 or less I'm convinced that I can't do any better than the JBL option. This was my initial conclusion before starting the thread and so far nobody's given any equal or better alternatives at this specific price point. Thanks to everybody who posted and your input.

Considering Erin's review was far less positive than Amir's I'm not at all convinced they're a good value.

Hard to beat by passives but if you factor in the price of a decent amp and cables the low end actives might actually have an edge over it IMO

1 wonders how 2 spins can produce such disparate results.
combination of unit to unit variation (which is very large on cheap speakers like this) and possibly a design change.

I was all for the JBLs. Doing more research, go for the emotiva if the budget isn’t an issue and they are found closer to $200, because I am guessing around $300 or a bit more we will have other speakers coming in!
