does anyone listen to Taylor Swift? tell me what the draw is

You can't just point at musicianship alone (The Beatles were not that good if you were to do that) or lyrical genius (similar), or vocal quality (which is really subjective - Bob Dylan anyone), and so on. And how do you know your definition of what talent looks like has any bearing on talent as a general concept.
So there's just no such thing as an educated or learned opinion of musical talent?
No one can say that so & so can't play guitar, or sing, or write lyrics very well, no matter how long the critic has spent in the industry or the level
of their personal talent in those accomplishments? If Joe Sixpack can only play 4 chords on the guitar neither Gilmour or Atkins can say they suck, that would only be their opinion and it's without any value?
If you heard me play my keyboard I'm sure you'd say I suck, and you'd be right.
OK, but this is just your opinion and I don't buy it either. LOL
We'll just have to agree to disagree here.

Yeah. Try Charles Rosen - in addition to being a highly cultivated critic of the Classical era of music he was also a highly cultivated performer of the same.

But making educated assessments of popular music is much harder. Sometimes it all boils down to a matter of writing style, like Lester Bangs or Nick Tosches. But most of the time it's like the bog-standard criticisms found in Rolling Stone or Pitchfork, people who like to think they know what's going on but really don't.

I played the new BluRay of Carly Simon - No Secrets last night, what a brilliant sounding Atmos remix of that 1972 album.
It includes not only the Atmos mix but also the original stereo, quad, and 5.1s.
Where does one look for music blurays of albums?

Specializing in Classical and more is 2L, The Nordic Sound.

Thanks mate! 2L was the only one of those that I know about.

NP, there's so much more actually. I stopped short so as not to go off topic too radically.
If your interested in knowing more about what's going on in the multich world, check things out at the
QuadraphonicQuad site, where immersive music is the order of the day.

And God forbid someone mention Beato who's spent his entire life creating, performing, recording and producing music.
He can't possibly know a damn thing either right? Mean ole Rick. :p

Yeah, I looked at Beato’s discography, and LOL! Good if you love turgid Southern Rock, I guess.

Generally, when someone starts posting Beato videos, they’ve lost the right to comment on modern pop. LOL.

Well, I didn't post any of Beato's videos, however (a lot!) of modern POP still sucks, one doesn't necessarily exclude the other.

Baloney, he knows more about the creation production and recording of MUSIC than 99.99 %
of the worlds population. It matters little the genre of music. He has every right to comment on the creation of any music just as I
would have the right to intelligently comment on the results from another's machinist work output.

Nope. He’s an old man working in an older music form shouting at young kids making modern music. Zero reasons to listen to what he says, unless you want your existing opinions reinforced.

The WSJ published this brief interview with music industry veteran Bob Lefsetz, which is interesting in itself and touches the subjects discussed here. The following link will bypass the paywall.

Great, another boomer who says music isn’t as good as it was in the 60’s and 70’s. With a bonus of thinking Elon Musk is rock ‘n roll. ‍

Doesn't mean that the "boomer" is wrong though, except for the Elon Musk part;)

I’m sure producing southern rock bands gives him a unique insight into pop music and the listening habits of anyone vaguely younger than him.
He never produced Pantera. ;)

Those were horrible years: no blastbeats, no chainsaw guitars, no growling...

Rick Beato did a segment on Yuja Wang and managed to get Sting(!) to loosen up by digging into the music theory side of songwriting. He's OK in my book and I'm glad to see him doing well.

I was part of the Taylor Swift online hype machine back in 2010--I was brought in as a technical fixer and dealt with the guy who talked to Taylor's very hands-on mom/manager. Never cared for her music, which is unsurprising given my tastes, but then my teenage daughter doesn't either.

Nearly all of the bar band female vocalists I work with (I'm a semipro live sound engineer) are better singers, but none of them have as many/much teeth as Swift. Tree Paine, Swift's publicist for the last 10+ years, is the real rockstar in my book.

She sings not live so she is just another fraudster.
Apparently not. But I am sure that cherry-picked analysis would reveal she is not 100% live-singing 100% of the time. Nature of the beast with big concerts doing complex modern pop overdubs, plus the main act leaping and running all over the place instead of languidly leaning on a piano for 2-3 hours.
