I’ve just watched a YouTube video about a power amplifier that has two modes, at the flick of a switch you can toggle between dynamic mode and a relaxed mode.
I must admit I've never seen this before as anybody any idea how it works?
It's 250 watt class D with dual modules.
I was wandering if it might catch on?
 
What do 'dynamic' and 'relaxed' modes mean? That assumes amplifiers have personalities. If I were to guess, 'relaxed' mode drops HF a few dBs, dynamic adds some Presence, around 2-4 kHz.

In other words, marketing bollocks, not anything engineered.

Apparently dynamic is more dynamic and relaxed is more relaxed, lol. It's a £6000 power amp so either mode should good. I'm just curious as to how it works, like I said' I've never seen this before.

How should we know how some random amp shown in a random YouTube video works?

I was wandering if it might catch on?
If an amp does anything other than linear voltage gain, it’s broken. So no, it will not catch on.

Sounds like nonsense to me! A good amplifier simply amplifies. That's a super-easy thing to accomplish with modern electronics and modern electronics are cheap, depending on how much power you need.

Dynamics (I like the term "dynamic contrast") come from the music (or program) not the amplifier. Unless you over-drive the amplifier into clipping (distortion) which is a very-bad kind of dynamic compression. It sounds like distortion, not compression.

Amplifiers have dynamic range, which is limited by noise on the quiet side and how loud it can go on the loud-side. Amplifiers have more dynamic range than normal program material but of course you can over-drive them, and sometimes you can hear noise in the background or during quiet parts and silence. Again, it's not perceived as "dynamics". It's heard as noise and/or distortion.

I don't trust "effects" that are not clearly described. There's not much "new" or "unknown" in the world of audio processing so IMO it's dishonest to be hiding anything. I remember the Aphex Aural Exciter which was a truly-unique and secret effect. Of course, it's now been fully analyzed and reverse-engineered.

“Pearl Acoustics”?, I watched the video yesterday.

Not for myself as I dislike hifi in boxes, active monitors is the only way but it seems well built and I imagine it’ll sell well
