Do you use a case on your phone?

Yeah, these days I do but I never bothered before and I’ve never had the misfortune to break a phone

I use a cheap but grippy Spigen case for my iPhone 17 only because my fingers are now numb with my SPMS and I can’t really feel when I’m holding a bare iPhone, it’s £17 or so at amazon and decent enough for my needs.

Didn't need them so much when they didn't make both front and back out of edge to edge glass.

I hate how cases add bulk, but the devices are too damn valuable to put at risk, especially if doing DIY or whatever.

I don't use a case. My phone is a Galaxy S24 Ultra which is fairly large already, but being thinner without a case makes is much less obviously bulky in my pocket. I reserve one pocket exclusively for my phone so there's nothing else for it to get scratched by there.

Edit: my previous phone was a Google Pixel 2 XL that I kept for I think about 6 years and used exclusively without a case and managed not to break it.

Tried Torras case and screen protector on my new iPhone this year… good results. Case is very low profile and has absorbed several drops on surfaces that would likely have damaged the chassis of my phone. Best part is there is no obvious sign of damage to the case, either. Their screen protector is also doing its job quite well: no issues with touch sensitivity or visuals and no damage to the screen. (Last iPhone I did not use a screen protector and picked up quite a lovely collection of minor scratches.)

Mine is one the few real leather ones I could find on Amazon (UK) for my phone and is therefore like a very slim wallet in my pocket. I have no idea why Amazon allow products to use the word "leather" when they are not - we're supposed to have consumer laws on product descriptions here in the UK!

On a related note I bought one the ubiquitous charger leads, for £3.86, that has the little fold out feet and comes out a right-angle to the base of the phone. It's surprisingly good and will work with a pretty thick case (sometimes, the USB plug cannot fit properly) - in fact, I had to pad it out with two small silicone sticky beads. It means I can prop the phone up in portrait mode when needed (the case does its own propping in landscape mode).

A couple of phones ago I got a case to go with it. I think it was a Samsung, but don't remember. Anyway, the case made it twice the volume (ie. cubic inches, not loudness), and the buttons didn't work so I didn't use the case.

Since then, I just buy the $40 Motorola phones and replace them if they get damaged, or after 24 months or so. I'm not sure what the $1k fancy phones get you, other than a confusing counter-intuitive UI from Apple. And no headphone jack.

BTW, from what I've read, the headphone jack is an impediment to waterproofness ratings so if you want your device to get a IP68 rating, the headphone jack needs to go.

I have a Google case on my new Google Pixel 10 Pro XL. The case was £24 from Amazon UK, rather than the £50 that Google wanted for it. I have a Tocol screen protector on my 10 Pro XL and my wife's Pixel 10. They really easy to put on and align themselves...
