Do I want an NC502MP or NCx252MP from audiophonics?

It works fine for me, and millions of others.

It should not affect quality. Unless you can force it to clip.
I have just tested it again quite thoroughly and all it does is to make the music louder or quieter - nothing else. Of course, louder means you perceive more bass and treble anyway.

Not an issue with foobar2000 as far as I know. But some players will run audio through ffmpeg to generate the volume-adjusted output. VLC f.e.

I don't see the defaults in foobar right now, but maybe reset those pages once. Downsampling and upsampling, double scan? Not sure these are the defaults.

I have ReplayGain on all the time and it never creates problems.

Ok lets see if i can set this up correctly

This option for scanning?

And these settings?

These ones you already showed so I copied the settings

- I did not suggest that the sampling to detect peaks were defaults - just what I was messing with last - none of these scan settings makes an audible difference on any of the tracks I tried.

And, personally, I would not "alter file content" - I just add the RG tags; I don't even see such a setting in FB2K version [2.26 preview 2026-06-10]

alter file content isnt a choice its just a setting with no way to disable it

I am running foobar 1.5.3 32bit for compatibility with certain components though

I just purchased NCx252MP from Audiophonics. I use it with RME ADI-2 DAC FS and Elac DBR 62 in a quite little and resont room (20 sqm).
Basicly the challenge is to choose the right volume of the DAC for each track played. The amp seems to have infinite power and reacts without any problem to any dynamic peak of the music. Quite challenging for my ears with classical music. The bass output of the ELAC for the first time comes alive. Previously I've used a NAIM and Topping LA90 discrete amp. I'm using a phonometer to try to stay within 80 dB at 2 metres.
The price/quality ratio is terrific!

Mine is 32bit too, because I run it as a DLNA client to my NAS server (running Media Server), and the only component for that is 32bit only.

But 1.5.x is so out of date, who knows what it does?.... I'm out of suggestions, and we are well-off-topic......

Shouldn't be a problem. ReplayGain is nothing new.

You should not alter files though. Whereever that comes from.

I had a look at the reset pages and your settings are not off. If you use track or album RG info is about your content. Newer versions of foobar allow scanning RG with the option to interpret files in a folder as an album and tag them as such. Before that the album info wasn't really for me, too many single tracks, recordings and such.

Attached some screens from my current foobar (64bit). I wish the upnp component would be available in an up to date version, can't do 32bit anymore.

Yeah - OP; get the recent 32bit release!

But what exactly is the component you use that precludes 64-bit?

In my case like Ruediger, I use "foo_upnp 0.99.49" which is 32bit only, and no longer supported, so I too am asking the FB2K community for a 64bit version. But really, for the time being, 32b is fine for me. I can do without, but it would mean FB2K would have to build a local library from SMB acccess to my NAS which takes time and space on my laptop.

Initial scan would take time, but afterwards foobar is very fast in monitoring even very big shares.

But local library is no substitute for upnp, which was or is a real nice addon.

Yup, i also use upnp component as well as an old synced lyrics component that works surprisingly well for me which is also 32bit only.

Just chiming in here to say that my amplifier with an NC252MP module died. Apparently the power supply was bleeding DC into the 12v rails and making the amp think it was clipping (and thus no sound). Sent it back to the system builder who offered to replace it with the NCx252MP. I will do it because it's the cheapest and easiest option right now for a working amp.

Honestly, it was a great amp.. when it worked. But if these modules die after a few years then it's not a great investment.

As an aside, I've never had a Class A/B fail but now I'm two for two on Class Ds, but of course I could just be unlucky. (I had a Topping PA5 and we all know how that turned out)
