Do I need an Amp for Dx3pro?

Currently I am using DX3pro with DT770 pro 80 ohm. I also planning to buy HD6xx.
Will adding a JDS atom amp make my DT770 sound better?

Probably not. Looking at Amir’s measurements, the Atom is capable of about double the power of the DX3 into 300 Ohm. It can probably be assumed to be about the same into the DT770’s 600-ish Ohm load. That’s an extra 3dB of headroom, which is only going to be marginally significant if you’re already really stretching the DX3. This is unlikely, given the 6 or so volts the DX3 is capable of should be able to drive the headphones to about 110dB (vs about 113dB for the Atom).

Yeh, HD6xx is an easier load than DT770 so no problems there either

Oh btw, just noticed some errors in my earlier post. Was way off with my SPL estimate - brain fart. Correcting now. Advice still stands though - there will be only a 3dB difference in max output between the two

Hi all,
just a warning: if you connect your DX3pro directely to your AMP you have a big problem :
I someone press the LINE OUT button or double click on the volume button, then the DX3Pro switch from preamp mode to DAC mode and the full signal (at -0.0dB) is sent to the Amp...i let you imagine the consequences....

apparently i'm not the only one to report this issue...

what can we do to make TOPPING sending the Alternative firmware to fix this "bug" for the one who want to use it as preamp ?
