Do I need a pair of Sennheiser HD650's in my life?

I absolutely do not need another pair of headphones but...

As I sit here typing this I don't know if I'm trying to talk myself into them or out of them. Spent the last couple days debating between the Hifiman Sundara and the 650. The Hifimans are less expensive and supposedly technically a better headphone when eq'd. Sennheiser however gets the nod on builld, comfort, and warm buttery mids That's the direction I'm now leaning. Adding either seems kind of silly as I have have 2 pairs of perfectly good headphones on my desk already and a nice pair of desktop speakers.

IMO if you already have two perfectly good pairs of headphones, I would probably look at other parts of your setup. For example, a Roon or music streaming subscription, or maybe Dirac Live and a UMIK measurement mic for your desktop speakers.

I think what I should have asked is what flavor of headphone am I curious to try. I have a modded pair of Fostex T50's that I enjoy. I also have a pair of Grado HF2's. So another planar or another dynamic. An open back planar versus the closed T50 or a more laid back open back dynamic to compliment the HF2. Thus my interest in the Sundara or the 650. I guess what I'm really looking for is some thoughts and impressions from people who own both, have owned both, or currently own one or the other. It's been a while since I threw any money down the audiophile rabbit hole and just wanted to overthink it a little bit before I let some money burn a hole in my pocket.

Why rush into a hasty decision you may regret later? Why not slow things down and enjoy the anticipation and slow-burning shopping lust in a leisurely fashion by luxuriating in the 1,177 posts of this excellent thread delving into every imaginable facet of this headphone, and then make a buying decision you may regret later. That’s what I did and Non, je ne regrette rien.
