Hi ASR Team -

I have only once in my life built an audio project myself. I'd like to revive it, as I am pretty handy in other areas. Also, it would be a fun thing to do as I want a new hobby.

I have kept a pair of speakers that are now 30 years old, the Ceeroy 8075:

They were quite respected back then, and measured quite well in German mags at the time. Plus I like their modern design, and the cabinets are super solid (they look like totally new). I think they have Vifa tweeters and woofers inside, 25mm and 130mm respectively.

Anyone has suggestions on which tweeter and woofer replacements would fit there (same physical measurements). Ideally close to state of art? Cost is no object. Naturally a crossover would be needed, it seems to all be easily accessible.

Any suggestions hugely appreciated by this junior DIY'er. Thanks! Wish you all great stuff in 2025!

The tweeters appear to be Vifa D25ag series. Pull one out to confirm and write the entire model number down.
That will give you something to find data sheets for to match when searching for "near" equivalents.
There were several versions which looked the same outside but some had an additional cap attached to the back
of the magnet. I am not sure if this was a bucking magnet.
Hales used the D25AG-35-06 in their Revelation series.

Can't say what to woofers are.

Going to need cabinet and driver mechnical dimensions for starters.

My BG Radia towers are very comparable. I upgraded the woofers but later abandoned the project as crossover redesign seemed a waste. My son and his wife and now the happy owners.

Hi ASR Team -

The tweeters are 104mm OD which may be the most popular size of tweeter faceplate, so you will have lots of choices. A lot of Peerless tweeters and the Scan-speak Discovery tweeters are this size. If cost is no object, the Scan-speak Classic tweeters (there are 3 slightly different models at Madisound from $155-$185 are also this size. I did not check the size Seas tweeters.

When you say "Naturally a crossover would be needed", do you plan on taking measurements and designing a xo, or are you looking for something that already exists? The center-to-center driver spacing is a little unusual and would probably not work for an existing design that has closer spacing between drivers.

I read that the Ceeroy 8075 is a 2.5 way with each woofer having its own enclosure space. That's not a problem, but it will be important to know the internal volume of those spaces, because the normal approach of figuring out the volume from the external dimensions isn't going to work.

The woofers were Vifa, so if you pull the woofers and get the driver model I bet they are a pretty common frame size too, like the tweeter.

Btw, is your goal to just learn something while updating your speaker drivers or something more? As mentioned, doing something SOTA takes test equipment, a spinorama turntable, a good room and time/patience. I struggle with the room and time challenges personally.

If your goals are more modest (restoring the speaker to former glory), you can get by with a simpler commitment.

Are your target speakers working?

In my post above I mentioned that I didn't look at any Seas tweeters.
This one says...

"Works for Vifa D25AG05, D25ASG05, D25AG35, D25AG68 (Thiel CS 1.5). This will work for any Vifa tweeter with "25AG" in the number that is on a 104mm circular flange. "

Correct, also the unnecessarily large spacing between tweeter and mid will not allow it in any case to become a great loudspeaker, but if someone is willing to invest quite some time in learning how to measure individual driver responses and then using loudspeaker simulation tools, why not, here is an overview of such needed steps:

Not to reduce your enthusiasm, and it might be just me, but if the speakers are in working condition, rather than being stuck with those cabinets' constraints in terms of volume, layout and diffraction, I think it would be both more educational and rewarding to leave them alone and start a new project altogether, even with same architecture and comparable drivers.
Anyway, have fun with this project !

Yes, the speakers work very well and sound very good.

Thanks for all the advice, ASR DIY'ers! Much appreciated. I'll update the topic once I have processed the info I just got.
