DIY Headphone Repair

Greetings from Atlanta! First thread post, but I am hoping to get some advice. My cat decided that it would be a good idea to chew through the cable to my beloved Beyerdynamics DT990 Pro. I was going to attempt the repair myself, as it looks like I can just replace the entire cable. I'm kinda worried that I might make the situation worse, and am wondering if I should just go to a professional.

Does anyone have any wisdom they could share with me? Any experiences would be greatly appreciated.

That was my impression as well. I'm still learning how to solder, but I have been doing trial runs with various scrap electronics until I'm confident I won't make it worse.

Could you recommend what 3.5mm aux cable I should be looking for as a replacement? I've really only dealt with speaker cable.

Oddly enough, the Beyerdynamic North America store doesn't have any cables of relevance listed under spares (they are readily available over here). There seem to be some suitable 3rd-party options on Amazon, like this or this one.

I would first contact Beyerdynamic repair service (https://north-america.beyerdynamic.com/service-support/repairs) and ask for spare parts and/or repair costs.

I wouldn't dare to solder it myself, due to the hair-thin wires leading to the drivers. I suggest to get it done by a pro (and a catproof headphone box afterwards).
Any standard headphone cable should suffice. Some mod their HP for detachable cables, but IDK if this is possible with this model.

Keep in mind that Litzendraht wire requires special soldering technique (and maybe using soldering acid as flux that you will need to figure out how to rinse off). So I second the advise to contact the repair service first.

I'd only recommend repairs if you're adept at soldering under a microscope.

I want to thank each one of you for your advice. After taking everything into consideration, I am definitely going to take it to a professional. There is a speaker repair shop not too far, and Atlanta has a couple awesome guitar/amp shops.

I really appreciate everyone talking me out of a DIY project that most likely would have backfired. Look forward to posting on here again.
