You can get a multimeter for next to nothing. But the cheap ones are garbage, often without autoranging and missing features such as microamp measurements needed for electronics design and troubleshoot.
So imagine everyone's surprise when a meter showed up from China (where else?) with all of these features, rivaling expensive multimeters. It is a 9999 count meter which is twice as good as typical meters that stop at 5000 or whatever. This means it maintains its resolution at higher values/voltages. It also has microamp range which is unheard of in low cost meters and rare even in higher cost ones.
Best news is that it is sold for just $20 including shipping! http://www.ebay.com/itm/AN8008-True...epid=0&hash=item41c6194c31:g:7SAAAOSwi7RZKRTd
As always corners are cut on safety front so do NOT try to use it on AC mains/high voltage. Otherwise, the meter seems to way outperform its price range as this video from Dave Jones shows:
I have 10 to 15 meters so even though I am tempted, I am trying hard to not purchase it. Then again, I may not be able to resist and buy it anyway. I could throw out my horrible Harbor Freight ones that I keep in the shed/shop (so that if they get stolen, I don't feel bad).
