Hello,

I’m planning to build a case that will house Hypex Nilai modules.
I still have a few questions; the first concerns the IEC socket.
I’ve machined a cutout for a fuse-less socket, but I’m wondering if I made the right choice.
Do you have any advice on this?

Second question, I’m wondering what's the value to including a soft-start circuit—as manufacturers do—when the kit sold by Hypex doesn't have one.

If you have the PS500DIY PSU, it already contains a fuse, so no need to add an additional one.

As for soft starts, they are usually for transformer-capacitor-based power supplies to limit inrush current. These self-contained SMPSes will have everything in place to offer a smooth startup sequence.

SMPS ramps up the output pulse ON-time to get a soft start sequence.

I have the DIY Hypex Nilai, converted to dual mono. I will be interested in seeing your case design. I have considered adding some ventilation slots for my standard case.

Thanks for the clarification.

I’ve identified three zones for ventilating the chassis.

HoweSound I remember reading about the modifications to your kit.
I drew a lot of inspiration from the designs by Audiophonics and Apollon Audio.

I’m planning to assemble two units, with the second one handling the compression drivers.
My choice isn't finalized yet, but there aren't many DIY options available, so I'll likely go with Neurochrome modulus 86.
