Hello everyone. For many years, I've been reading this forum, speaker reviews, new product launches, and admiring what others do. It's time for me to post and present the brand and its product, which I believe may be of interest to some of the readers as well.
About Ditonica
Ditonica is a new name with an experienced team behind it. For over a decade, our Latvia-based factory has been manufacturing loudspeakers and speaker cabinets for various European brands, offering exceptional finish, assembly, and quality control. Following these highest industry standards, we are now offering our own product directly to customers.
By breaking the endless loop of added costs, we can concentrate our efforts on what matters for sound: perfect quality cabinets and parts whose utility can be verified, measured, and heard. The essential part of our sound quality standards is Spinorama measurement.
System 7
The idea behind System 7 is to combine a classic retro look with modern measurement standards: a neutral tonal balance and controlled directivity. Typical obstacles to achieving this goal in this type of loudspeaker are usually diffractions, causing directivity problems around 1000 Hz, and a non-wave-guided tweeter. Both together, they lead to a lack of reflections in the midrange region and excessive reflections around the high-midrange / low tweeter regions, causing directivity errors and colorations of sound in the room.
To prevent these problems, we placed the midrange driver responsible for this region off-center and divided the effect from the left and right edges into different frequencies. After this region, the horizontal directivity tends to become wider, so we use 2500 Hz as the crossover frequency to compensate for it with vertical lobing. And finally, the waveguide effectively reduces the tweeter's directivity after 3000 Hz. This way, we distributed the effects causing directivity narrowing across the wide frequency region, avoiding their concentration.
As a result, a wider midrange dispersion, neutral tonal balance, good level of smoothness for Spinorama curves, and a steady-declining predicted in-room response. Such an interesting combination of characteristics, subjectively, creates a feeling of wider soundstage and more presence in vocals and instruments, especially when moving around in the room.
Cabinet
The cabinet material is 18 and 25 mm MDF. We use internal bracing around the separate midrange volume to make the cabinet acoustically silent, and cotton-wool damping to eliminate the standing waves. The speakers finished with a lacquered natural walnut veneer, adding a pleasant wood texture in comparison to popular vinyl or engineered veneer finishes. The grills are made of acoustically transparent fabric and can create an alternative black-front look.
Instead of large and expensive speaker stands, we equipped System 7 with a compact, angled platform, adding approximately 10 cm of height to the tweeter axis every meter away from the speakers, optimizing the listening position approximately 3 meters away. That aligns the tweeter's axis with the human ear in a sitting position. We include it for all speakers; however, for those who want to try different options, it's easy to unscrew the platform and put the speakers on other stands that customers prefer.
Price and delivery
The starting price per pair is 1990 EUR + shipping to your destination, including local VAT for EU customers. We also accept international shipping; however, import costs may vary depending on your destination. We manufacture speakers based on individual orders, but we plan to maintain a stock in the future.
Technical Specifications
CTA-2034, quasi-anechoic method (doesn't show the results below 200 Hz due to lack of resolution).
Predicted in-room response.
At this stage, this is a finished product, but we are always open to making improvements. We plan to post future updates, including more detailed measurements and production insights, in the future. I would be happy to answer your questions and receive feedback. Feel free to express your opinion; this is a learning process for us as well.
