Currently my Grace SDAC balanced has no physical volume control and I have no preamp. Don't want to blow by speakers, but don't want to spend $1000-$2000 on preamps and new DACS just as insurance against $1500 speakers. Has anyone had crashes of dirac processor or unexpected events or other problems with Dirac on Mac.

thanks in advance!

I found out through experimentation that you ultimately can control the actual DAC volume as a last output step from audio midi. So for the most part even if you accidentally were to exit from Dirac processing or it were to crash, your DAC volume can be set to a safe output. ( What I am doing is having dirac virtual device at 100% and then controlling volume on the DAC directly in audio midi ).

I'm running the following chain om my Mac: Source -> Dirac -> Blackhole -> CamillaDSP -> Motu M4 -> Fosi V3 Mono. Volume can be controller at the source i.e. Roon, or set up a max volume on Dirac or CamillaDSP in my case. Have run a similar setup for a few years now without anything blowing up yet.
