If you want to start cheap and small the Edifier MR-4 Erin just measured look good: https://www.erinsaudiocorner.com/loudspeakers/edifier_mr4/
Can't go above 85dB, but has good directivity which means should be EQ-able. The included bass and treble controls might even be enough to tune it for listenability.

Which model how do they sound?

Wharfedale 12.0s. They're very solid for $300. I'd say a little thick in the midrange and a bit rolled off up top. Others have said the same so maybe I've just turned into a parrot. Obviously they don't dig super deep with only a 4" driver, but I've been satisfied with the bass that is there. I need to break out REW and come up with some EQ filters before I pass final judgement.

Pretty impressed with the DA9 for only $250. Clean and solid features. I appreciate the sub out as I might add one later.
