Hey, I know a lot of posts on here are on the topic of "review my first build plan, let me know what to change" but I think my situation is just unique enough and my mom has told me I'm special enough times that I want to post my own thread.
Budget/background - I've done car audio for a few years and I've built progressively more involved and more expensive setups over this time, so I have fabrication skills, a decent idea of what I enjoy in a system, and willingness to put in a decent amount of money and time to a first system transitioning into home audio. Budget is around $3-5k, hopefully on the lower end but if the extra dollar gives me extra nice audio then I'll spend it. The room in question is my apartment, I'm in a high rise so the floors/ceilings are something thin on top of concrete and the walls are whatever construction paper cost the builders the least amount of money. 3 walls of a rectangle and the last wall is a sort of arc of 3 floor to ceiling windows.
Tons of flexibility, subs can go anywhere, speakers and listening position can be anywhere (and I'll mess around and see what works best), I'll be treating the room and can put room treatment anywhere. I also don't listen to music loud - I've been warned many a time that the gear I'm buying for my car won't be loud enough and I'm never close to full volume on any system I've built or heard.
Cars are more about the install than the gear, even to a greater extent than homes because cars are a horrible place for speakers to shine, so I'm new to the level of critical detail/understanding I need when I read home audio data.
Current plan is fully active DSP, 2-way bookshelves and some number of subs, I'll get into that later in the post. Planning to build the enclosures myself and have everything sealed, I have experience with winISD and designing/building enclosures and it seems like spending $2k on drivers will get me better sound (with well-designed enclosures) than spending $2k on speakers.
Source - pretty much set on miniDSP flex eight, I could do some shenanigans with the channels to get speakers and subs out of only 4 channels but I frankly would just prefer the ease of having the DSP used as intended. All digital sources into the DSP.
Tweeters - thinking Mundorf Mundorf AMT29CM1.1-R, I love airy/crisp detail in speakers rather than warm coloration from the car setups I've done. These also play surprisingly low so I can run 6.5s that play low and need less subs. Open to suggestions on any of the gear, and I'll be buying cheaper starting drivers to get the system running before I buy the fancy stuff.
Midbass - thinking Purifi PTT6.5X04-NFA-01 but again open to suggestions
Amps for the bookshelves - here's where I'm a bit more lost because there are so many options. The goal is getting 4 amp channels with good measurements in the 60-20kHz range, at a low listening volume, which seems like it gives me dozens of possibilities for a decently low price. Would love to be pointed to specific reviews as I've been reading a handful of them and I have too many that seem like they would work.
Subs - also a bit lost here as these can be a pretty massive money sink. My impression is that the highest end servo subs eat up money and reduce your distortion from inaudible to even more inaudible. I honestly have no idea how much of my budget to put into these. I can put them anywhere in the room with no restrictions, so I was hoping I could cross my midbasses at 80 or even 70 and only need 1 well-placed, well-DSP'ed sub. It also seems like most of these are paired with an amp, which is very different from car audio where the powered subs are the lowest of entry level in general.
I appreciate any help, I'm sure I left something out of this post so let me know if there's anything I should clarify.
