DEQX Premate 8 digital active crossover / DSP

Like you, I came to this forum hoping to connect with other DEQX Pre-8 owners and exchange thoughts about the user interface. I would prefer not to do that publicly, though, because in my experience any discussion tends to attract the same recurring critics who derail the conversation. That’s the main reason I stepped away from public discussions here.

Anybody use the update that came yesterday? I’m installing tonight. Any noticeable improvements?

I have installed it yesterday, the biggest noticable improvement right away is that all the settings and profiles are being saved throughout the update. No more reloading everything which makes updating a breeze. Other than that I noticed no change in the UI on the unit itself. Have not looked at the setup page yet.

I just installed it, and indeed, all profiles and PEQ settings, etc., were automatically reloaded, so that's a big plus. I also had the problem that switching between sources usually only worked with the remote control. This now seems to work fine with the tablet as well. Further use will reveal whether there are any new problems, but so far, a significant improvement. It's getting better every time ;-)

Latest update installed and I guess it sounds fine. But what is happening with the software? I'm somewhat worried that I've been scammed with this product. Where is the automatic room correction as promised by this "Alan" fellow?
Charging thousands of dollars to be a beta tester...
Also - They have now apparently officially released the product and are shipping it worldwide. Any further news?

Edit: I would just like to add I've found this youtube channel:
This expat aussie boomer sounds extremely stoned. He can barely form a coherent sentence. Very worrying as an end user consumer of this product.

By latest software, I presume that you mean v1.4.60e which came out mid-January? Loading the new software is one thing, but unless you have taken a measurement with the new software, you will not hear any change in SQ. Once I had my new measurement, SQ improvement was night and day with better clarity and deeper soundstage, for example.
Room correction is dealt with during the measurement process automatically, it's not a separate step. However, you do have PEQ which is independent of the measurement process.

I had the DEQX PDC2.6P in my system since 2007 and the new PRE-4 (I only have 2-way active 'speakers) is so much easier to set up and with significantly better results.

Yes not passing the pub test, if not just taking the piss - don't come the raw prawn with us!

That drongo's spewing such a load of rubbish should be darbie'd

I don't recall them promising automatic room correction at any point. I have the manual for the Premate 8, it looks pretty easy to set up. Just RTFM and you'll be fine.

Room Acoustic Optimization

Every listening room has unique acoustic characteristics that colour the sound. DEQX measures your room's response and applies precise corrections to neutralise unwanted resonances and reflections.

Physical room treatment always helps, while DEQX takes that to another level. This transforms even challenging spaces into accurate listening environments, allowing you to hear your music as the artist intended.

The fact that the 3rd stage of the measurement is done at the listening position suggests that room effects are taken into account at this stage.

I had tried following the guidelines of moving the mic at each stage of measurement but found that I got the best result (sound quality) when ALL measurements were taken from the listening position i.e. don't move the mic at all during the process.

mic placement is very interesting to me, since it is one of the few manual ways to manipulate the outcome. I’ve always assumed measurements were 1st, quasi anachoic driver measurement. 2nd, timing alignment, 3rd, measurement of room effects to try to get back to 1st measurement, (by removing room and effects). Deqx doesn’t give a lot of details or tips concerning mic placement.

Having a non symmetrical room, I’d love to eq speakers separately, but not possible as of yet. Also would love to have seperate high and low pass filters instead of identical electronic slopes with high/low conjoined.
