Hello! I hope this is the right forum to ask this question.
I have an old Denon receiver/amplifier, Denon UDRA-M10, which was a part of their ultra-compact hi-fi system Denon D-M10 in early 2000s I think.
The specs say it's 2x40Wpc, and there is very little information available in terms of measurements,
but I opened the case and took some picture of the internals
My question is whether this amplifier is good compared to, let's say Yamaha A-S501, if we leave the power question outside of the equation.
I'm only talking about the quality of the components and if anyone is familiar with this amplifier - what are your thoughts if it will be a decent match to something like a pair of SVS Ultra Bookshelf
I did hook them up and listened and didn't hear any suspicious, but I'm totally newbie and don't know what to listen to specifically.
Please see pictures in the attachment.

Pre-amp parts I spotted:
2x caps 100µF
2x caps 220µF
3x caps 50µF
a bunch of transistors a970
a bunch of transistors c1841

Main amp:
2x caps 8200µF
2x transistors C4278
2x transistors A1633

Somewhere in the middle with a small separate heat sink:
1x transistor KIA 7805A
1x thingy with 5 legs BA12ST

I don't know about a A-S501, but this is a very good sounding amplifier. I've moved on to more expensive and more powerful components but as far as sound quality goes you will have a hard time beating the UDRA-M10. It is rated at 40 watts per channel @ 4 ohms so will be a little less into 8 ohm speakers. I still have mine and I took it out the other day to see if it was still working and I hooked it up to some NHT SB3 speakers and a B.I.C Venturi V8 8" subwoofer and I was surprised at how good it still sounded. The bass was very strong and controlled and the midrange and highs also sounded nice. It has a sub woofer pre-output on the back which makes adding a powered sub woofer very easy. I haven't changed and components on mine and all of the caps are still working fine. Hook it up to some good efficient speakers and I think you will be very happy with the sound. If you can add a small 8" powered sub that will help a lot as you only have 80 watts (40 watts per channel @ 4 ohms)

elna caps

you'll find a lot of the early made in china but japanese brand stuff to be decent

heres what the setup looks like

speakers probably suck but that core is a decent unit if you have sensitive speakers

headphone out, sub out, lots of inputs plus a loop... lot of new shit in this class omits a heap of these

Flyer for the system:
I read through the flyer and the DAC sounds pretty impressive.
"18 Bit, Multi-Bit, Dual D/A Conversion System ... on par with much larger and more expensive stand-alone CD players"
My $600 Schiit Bifrost has a 16 Bit Multibit DAC.
The new $800 Bifrost 2 has dual 18 Bit Multibit DACs.

The chips in Schiit are different, more modern, but yeah, those older 18 bit multibit DACs sound great IMO. Remember, the CDs have 16 bit and they are sufficient.

I have bought a few CD players and I can compare the multibit ones with noise-shaped delta-sigma. I prefer the multibit.

I've searched high and low but I have not been able to find a owners manual for the UDRA-M10. It took me awhile but I finally figured out how to set the clock.

I have two really old Sony CD players that sound very good; they must have a pretty good DAC as I didn't really hear any improvement when I started using the digital coax output with the Bifrost. I've got a CDP-605esD and a CDP-307esD. I found a nice review of the CDP-605esD at the link below.
