Denon SACD/CD Player smell

I purchased a Denon DCD-1700ne SACD player just under 2 years ago. Right out of the box I noticed a smell from the unit when in use, hard to describe, not unpleasant and not super strong either but odd for sure. I assumed it was because it was new and that it was residue that would burn off, it never has though and after almost 2 years of light use it is still there.

The warranty is up in a few weeks so I am considering whether to get it looked at before the warranty is up. This is a hassle though as I have to box it up and send it back to the dealer (at my expense) who will then send it on to a Denon service center to look at. Why I cannot send it direct I do not know but apparently I cannot. If I could just drive it down to them I probably would have down it already.

The thing is the smell does not bother me at all and I cannot smell it from my listening position, the only reason I am thinking of sending it in is in case the smell is a sign of something more serious that might bite me after the warranty has expired. If I had confidence that it was not I would not give it a second thought. Also, I mostly listen to records so it really is very low mileage and a part of me is wondering if it may still wear off?

Anybody with the 1700ne or any other Denon CD player experienced this or similar?

Thanks

I had exactly the same with a new Denon DCD-1600 followed by a new DCD-A110. It’s a common feature it seems!

Thanks, did either of them ever fail?

I think I have decided to keep it, the hassle of returning it and being without it for an extended period won out in the end!

Hi. No issues at all. The 1600 I had for a year and the A110 for 2 years. They always had that smell but worked perfectly.

I too have found an odour coming from the player. I have just got it 3 days ago. I called the supplier and they said it’s normal for all new electronic products to have a smell for the first few days or up to a week. But to still have it after two years is troubling.

Forget it I have had a slew of electronics and none of them ever smelled anything even when hot!
The only one that was stinky is an Emotiva that I returned very quickly!
