Denon/Marantz - the end is near (or not)

Meh, that porthole thing plus we don't usually get the silver option here in the US. Stunning, must be the in the eye of the beholder thing :) I have more than enough power amps at this time and don't display them on a bench/table, they're in a rack and out of line of sight.
Indeed, in the eye of the beholder. And agreed with the color, I'm in the US too and it is very hard for me to build my all silver system, but now that I have an all silver system, I have it on display as it is part of the experience for me. But again, all in the eye of the beholder.

So I would be very pleasantly surprised with e.g. x900H from Denon or even ART implementation this year. Do not think it will happen though. Just my 2 cents.
I agree - no x900 series until after it is a done deal and the chaos has settled down.... 18months? 2 years?

Disagree on ART - the work is already done, the Beta testing is well under way, and the product should be well nigh ready to go - will it need some final polishing and bug fixing - probably... but that is the nature of software.

Having that in the market, will give them something to market, upsell those who are currently on lower end AVR's, or older X700 and earlier models, and give them time to get the strategy for the next step in place.

You could always move up to gold....

Many markets from toothpicks to leather goods got gobsmacked by 'you know who' and perhaps the audio market is next up on that butcher block.
I hope it is nothing more than a haircut.
$1000 can't compete against $200.

LOL. My fascination back in the 80s lasted a few minutes.

ps But sexy, nah

On contraire. Look at these beauty. . .bring me the UV meters! :)

And rather than spend anything on development and innovation, they chose to buy trinnov software and design, and rebadge it for their flagship....
I mean it's not like you can just whip up something better than the most advanced AV processor ever made. Throw in patents and decades of development on their software platform, it was clearly a smart move by Harman to license it.

Then again the XT32 and related apps are a fairly comprehensive alternative....but I'd love to have a Trinnov, have always regretted not pulling the trigger on the Sherwood R972 (?)

For the longest time, Google and Apple thought about making their own chip, but it made no business sense when they can buy from Intel and AMD. . .and when it finally made business sense, they did it.

People are forgetting no matter how much passion you have in your business, you are running a business, you have a payroll, you have account payables, you have to make a damn profit. . . because it's not a non-profit.

It's not just the chip, tho

It's everything. Aways buy when you can, and make when it make sense.
If it makes an actual difference, sure....most times it isn't that these days. Just "audiophile" imaginations and marketing.

Are you specifically talking about the use of Trinnov software? Sometimes, there are other factors other than just sonic difference, sometimes they want control, sometimes they have certain requirements, sometimes it's cheaper, sometimes they think they can do it better. So it has to make business sense.

With this case, maybe they don't think they feel they can do better than Trinnov and if they tried, it may cost them too much and too long. Just like their model 10 uses Purifi.
