Denon AVR-X6800H now released.

If it works well, then you are in luck, but damage could still manifest later on. Also, I had issues selling my used gear when original packaging was damaged even less. So thinking about the re-sale value, these are return items for sure.

That is something I pride myself on if/when I sell user gear or tech.

I decided to keep it. The foam paper the receiver was wrapped in looked completely fine. Unwrapped it and the receiver is flawless, not a mark or fingerprint anywhere on it. Nothing rattles. Plugged it in and it booted up just fine. All connections on back seem fine, nothing bent or damaged.

I just don't have it in me to go through a stupid return process when the unit seems just fine.

I live not far from their warehouse so thankfully the exchange process was quick and easy. Only delay was the weekend holding back the delivery.

For me I like to keep my gear and even boxes in mint condition. That way if/when I sell my equipment down the road it looks as if it was still new.

Update for my exchange from electronics expo.

This time they sent the receiver in excellent condition. Packaged correctly, with stuffing in the shipping carton, and ‘fragile’ stickers on it as well.

A few things of interest:

1) One corner of the actual denon box was dinged pretty good, which had to have happened from denon shipping to EE. Thankfully the styrofoam inside was not cracked or smashed.

2) The original shipping label from denon to EE is interesting, as it was on the denon box itself. The receiver was labeled to “GLAM AMZN” which looks to be a separate seller listing for Amazon third party sellers.

3) Still not pleased with the trickery EE admitted to, how they were purposely manipulating pricing on prime day every ten minutes to appear as the first seller of an item. That’s how I got ‘tricked’ into buying from them in the first place.

I have seen that "GLAM AZON" vendor on Amazon! Must be a shell company for EE.
Hope this newer one works out for you!

Luckily your receipt shows "Electronic Expo". "GLAM_AZON" for sure is not an authorized retailer!

Does anyone own this here? I’m reading horror stories in recent reviews on amazon and Best Buy, saying the unit arrived damaged, or it was defective and certain channels didn’t work. I presume the HDMI and LG OLED issue was fixed by updates, as I didn’t see recent posts about that.

I returned mine (bought from amazon) and it constantly stopped connecting to the internet. Tried resetting network to factory settings and latest firmware upgrade, but no good. Went back to my X4800H. Looking for a new receiver, but not sure what to buy at this point.

Looking for internet deals can be tricky. Looking for a good deal on local demo or lightly used unit might be a safer way. I must admit though that I was thus far lucky on internet deals as well.

Was yours part of that Electronic Expo Prime Day deal?

I purchased one at launch, after an initial setup issue (my fault), it's been working flawlessly with my LG OLED. I do however use it as a processor, so not making use of the internal amps.

I've been using one for several months with no issues. I have an LG OLED, but don't use eARC.

Why is that, what is your current setup?

This is going to sound like a silly question perhaps… what’s do you mean by what you said? “Use it as a processor, not internal amps”?

I’ve never went insane with home theater. Back in the day I bought a HTIB, and now I have a 7.1 setup with an older Denon X1400H. I don’t use any other equipment. I’ve now bought the X6800H and will just plug in my current 7.1 setup, run earc from my PS5, LG 4K player, and Apple TV 4K, then upgrade speakers down the road.

I just bought a new 77 LG G3, coming from a 65 LG B7. With the prime day deal and some gift cards, I jumped on the deal X6800H deal. Figured why not upgrade both at the same time.

Many AVRs, including this model, can be connected directly to the owner's non-amplified speakers via the row of terminals labeled 'Speaker Front R, Speaker Front L etc' (which uses the AVR's internal power amplifiers), or can be connected to the owner's own external power amplifiers or powered/active speakers via the terminals labeled 'Pre Out' (which bypasses the AVR's internal power amplifiers).

This latter way is sometimes called 'processor mode' because the specialty products that can only be used this way are called AV Processors or AVP. These units have no internal power amplifiers at all.

As Newman outlined, I connect the pre-outs to external amplifiers and set the X6800 to "Pre-Out Mode"

A question for you, why do you use eARC, why not connect all your devices directly to the Denon?

I can’t really figure out the Sound Mode options.

Using the TV Audio input (hdmi eARC connection).

Is there a way to have the 6800 automatically switch to plain DD (as opposed to DD + DSurr) when a DD signal is present?

Basically, if the signal is stereo, I want it to automatically switch to Stereo sound mode; if the signal is DD or DD+ I want to to switch to that corresponding sound mode; and if the signal is Atmos I want it to switch to Atmos sound mode. But I don’t want the default to also use the added DSurr algorithm to send stuff to the rear surround and height channels. ( I only want to hear stuff in those channels if it was purposely mixed that way.) Is that possible?

Yes, that's possible. If a source is playing in a sound mode you'd rather not have it play through, cycle through the sound modes until you find the one you want - it should automatically switch to that sound mode in future.

Might be that there's a setting or two in the setup menu that manages that behaviour, but I believe that's how it works by default.

Try doing a factory reset it worked for me!

I think the problem is that everything is coming from my TV through e-ARC. So there's only one source. But the content that comes from that source may encoded any number of different ways. Clicking around the home screen of the Roku (run through my TV, then to the Denon via e-ARC) is Stereo. Some channels on YouTube TV are stereo. Some are DD 5.1. I think some are occasionally DD+. Some content on Disney+ is in DD+, other content is Atmos. Some content on Netflix is Stereo, some is DD+, some is Atmos, etc. So there's only one "source" (i.e., my tv) that's going to the TV Audio input on the Denon (vi e-ARC), but that source sends all sorts of differently encoded content. I want the Denon sound mode to just detect and match the incoming content (i.e., Stereo, DD, DD+, or Atmos) without adding DSurr. But it doesn't seem to want to do that.

Your Denon should recognise the signal characteristics and default to the last mode you used for that type of signal. So once you set up your preferences (which is needed), it should default to those. If not, then you need to troubleshoot...
