As mentioned before, I really doubt it. But as all things in Hi-Fi, if you think it will sound better, it most likely will. LOL
I ran my 4700 in full preamp mode with the 5 Adcom amps I've owned for a long time. The whole idea just made me comfortable.

My LCR (ATC and B&W) are active/powered, have 3 subs so that shouldn't be that much of an issue. Just wonder if introducing an outboard amp to drive the 4 surrounds would bring noticeable benefits.

Certainly not audible benefits. The AVR may run a bit cooler, but the surrounds don't draw much current, so even that benefit will be limited. You are overthinking this.

Only if the surrounds have low sensitivities and/or seating distance is an issue such as further than the LCR, like > 5 meters etc., and you like it loud.. So, not likely, but still, it depends.

Incidentally, what do you think about the 3eaudio multi-channel amp you have? I suppose they are branded as Alsozone?

Yes branded as ALSOZONE but sold by 3eaudio. The PAM158 already arrived, I will change my setup this weekend. I think if the PAM158 is an 8 modul version of the 3eaudio A5 you can hardly get a better quality for this price.

Full pre-amp mode drops energy used by the Denon 4700 from 156W to 200W depending on volume level to a steady 46W in full pre-out mode. In addition, the Denon 4700 stays remarkably cooler in pre-amp mode. It's definitely a win for longevity of the device.

Alsozone is just a brandname. Honestly they should fire the person in the marketing department who brought this bad brand up. But at the end if it’s 3eaudio A5/A7 inside who cares.

For now, all I can say is that the build quality looks really good. I'll write how it sounds.

Set Eco to auto and you should get 46W at low volume too, while using internal amps.
