Upgrade to 3800H would give you Dirac including ART which would be the most valuable upgrade. AV 30 is not bad, but if budget is concern that 3800H with full Dirac pack would do just fine.

not if you are happy with it.
Changing for change sake is waste of money however some options
1) Upgrade your Main speakers, and center
2) Add a stereo integrated amplifier for stereo music
3) Get a decent streamer
4) Upgrade or add another subwoofer
5) Look into room treatment
6) Look into a universal programmable remote control
7) Expand number of speakers channels ie from 5.1 to 7.1
The newer generations supporting Dirac ART are a major upgrade (if you purchase the license and use it correctly). This is both from personal experience, and many forum posts including before/after measurements with Dirac ART for various systems. The results are simply unmatched by anything else you can get at that price point as well as much higher price points. X3800h is probably the cheapest available option that supports it.
Other differences are quite minimal and I wouldn't bother upgrading for them.

If you are happy, no need to upgrade. You use it in preamp mode, so you don't need better amplifier section.
Or if you want a new feature?
If it is for dirac ART, the cheapest option is the Denon x3800h, no need to pay the Marantz tax. Personally, I found very sad that the 3800 is a sinad regression, so for peace of mind, though probably not audible, I would go to 4800/6800.
Note that at last black Friday, art was free for a new Denon purchase, so I would probably wait for that.
If not for dirac or more channels, then spend your money on more subs if you have just one.

Thanks for the advice, I was indeed thinking about Dirac Art. But maybe I just wait until it stops working or the impulse to upgrade grows

Nah, keep it, it's good to go as long as it doesn't have HDMI issues in your setup.

The release of ART on the D&M Platforms, has amounted to a massive upgrade... and as the x800 series ages, their availability on the used market increases, providing potentially stunning bargains.
Objectively the x800 will provide 99.9% of the performance of any of the upper echelon D&M AVP/AVR's -making it a fabulous bargain at its MSRP, let alone at its street price.
I opted for an X4800 for purely subjective reasons - and am very happy with the end result.
If your timeline is measured in 24months plus, there may well be updated D&M AVP/AVR's, as well as competitor from Onkyo/Integra, and other brands...
Right now, ART is mostly a D&M exclusive within the mass-market AVR segment.... it will take at least 18months for competitors to really get going from the looks of things.
