Question: since the L/R internal amps can be disconnected, would it be better to get a 2-channel amp for the fronts and a monoblock for the center than to get a 3-channel amp for all 3?

No need for a monoblock. Get a 3 channel or 5 channel amp that meets your power requirements.

It may make sense to get a different amp for the center channel with higher sensitivity so that it runs at lower distortion.

As an Denon X8500 I had assumed it would probably measure as good or better than the x3600. However, after reading the x4700 review, one cannot really assume anything. Anyone that has looked at the schematics have any thoughts how the x8500 would compare? I am still planning on sending the x8500 to Amir but probably not until late July.

As of today, Accessories 4 Less has 3600’s back in stock, if anyone’s interested.

Good find. Just a heads up for people looking at these on A4L: these are factory refurbs. They have a 3-year warranty but I personally have no experience with A4L's warranty coverage to know how legit it is.

At $999 you'd need to be very interested. That said, I don't see any new ones in the supply chain, so if anyone is waiting on price reductions because the 3700 is out I'm afraid they're going to be disappointed. The $450 I paid for my refurb 3500 a few weeks back is starting to look better.

A4L is a Denon authorized dealer, they are safe.
https://www.accessories4less.com/make-a-store/brand_category/denon/1.html

But normally the 3600 @ this point in time, and with the new Denon models released, should be closer to 40% off instead of just 10%

Everything is different now; with the pandemic, the audio/video market, the 3600 popularity here @ ASR (news fly fast).
* The 4500 is the same price.

Accidentally posted this in the X4700 forum...

I drive by the Harrisonburg Crutchfield store every day so I decided to call a manager I know and check on stock (their site says X3600s are back-ordered, not out of stock). Turns out they have an X3600 on display so they sold it to me. And, since it's a display model they discounted it. :) I am picking it up along with an Anthem MCA 325 3-channel amp from their Charlottesville store Friday. Feeling a little lucky.

If anyone absolutely must have the X3600h, they're back in stock at A4L.

Could someone please outline the major differences between this(3600H) vs the 4500H other then amp power(105 vs 125watts). Which is the better buy at the same price point in your opinion @amirm or anyone else that's wants to chime in? Thanks

If the price is the same, I would take my chance and buy the X4500H, not because of the slightly higher power output, but because of the better specs, features, and seemingly better build overall. I don't know why the audio specs for the 4000 series are better, but they are. I would not touch the X4700H though, not until we hear back from Denon.

Amir hasn’t done any test on any Denon in the 4xxx, 6xxx or x8500k besides the x4700. The next things to get a more complete picture is testing the x3700, an x4500 and something from the 6xxxx or 8500. We just don’t know if the performance improves or not with higher series models than the 3xxx series yet. I hope they do (as an x8500 owner) but until we get him more to test we really don’t know for sure it seems to me.

As you probably know, I am of the opinion that the X4400/4500/6400/6500H should measure as good or very similar to that of the X3600H, based on:

a) the X3500H came very close at the lower preout voltage of 1.2 V.
b) the X3600H and X4500H's layout looks extremely similar.
c) X3600H, X4500H have the same vol control and DAC ICs.
d) I have seen the SM of the X4500H.

So I would consider the X4500H, X6500H "known quantity" even though they have not been measured by ASR. Of course I can be wrong, but I bet I have a better than 50/50 chance of being more or less right.

The X3700H and X4700H are the new "generation", they are the so called 8K ready and comply with HDMI 2.1 so based on ASR's measurements, I would not touch those until we hear back from Denon.

The SR6014, same year model as the AVR-X3600H (both are the last of the 4K HDMI 2.0 models), apparently will be tested soon. I can't wait to see how close the results will be, relative to the AV7705's. Logically speaking, the preamp/DAC SINAD measurements should be very comparable.
