Hello everyone,

I’m not an expert, but I really value high-quality sound and video. Currently, I have a 7.1.2 setup with Klipsch RP-8000F Reference speakers connected to a Denon AVR-X3500H(connected to PC and projector). The sound quality is decent, but I’m very limited by the video connections on the receiver, especially for 4K HDR, which results in a noticeable loss in video quality.

I’m looking to upgrade to a more modern model while also improving the overall audio quality. My budget is up to $3,000. The complexity of the setup is not an issue for me, as I enjoy learning and experimenting with these configurations.

With this budget, would it be better to invest in a processor like the Anthem AVM 70 8K and a basic amp or just go with the Denbon AVR-X6800h?

Thank you for your advice!

A new AVR will not give you better sound quality per se. Hence, I would only upgrade it, if you need newer HDMI features.

However, improved room correction could be a massive upgrade. As the x3500h supports Audyssey XT32, it should be compatible with OCA's free A1 Neuron. Hence, I would recommend buying a UMIK-1, installing REW, and giving it a try. I have an x3800h, and A1 Neuron gives me substantially better results than Audyssey XT32.

If you want better and (semi-)automatic room correction, a new AVR with Dirac Live Bass Control may be a good, although costly alternative. I've never used Dirac, but it's probably on the same level or even better than A1 Neuron.
