The more important question for me is whether high SINAD is enough to pull 2900 shoppers away from the much cheaper RZ30 that includes the base Dirac license (capable of DLBM/DLBC) and 2 discrete SW outs (I'm guessing the RZ31 will be more of the same).

I read from somewhere that RZ31 comes with x4 sub outs and 11.4 processing so it goes head to head with X3900H! Also considering it has the ES9017S DAC, includes base Dirac license and ART support. Exciting times ahead! I`m hoping Yamaha would surprise us with new Aventage models, but chances for that are slim...
I think the RZ31 will win. DLBC with two discrete subout and es9017s dac is a winning formula.
I hope someone will drop one off to Amir soon. If it managed to achieve the theoretically possible 100 dB SINAD (based on the x3600/3700h but with the much better Cirrus Logic 4308S dac chip), it would be unbeatable even at least price.

A friend is looking forward to 'close-out' pricing on the Denon '3800' and hopes a good portion of the savings will defray the cost of Dirac licensing when Dirac has a sale.

Look at the bottom left of the pic.
It is my understanding Onkyo said the products revealed at CES 2026 are 'concepts' to use to gauge the interest of dealers before deciding to produce them.
I am not aware that Onkyo has decided to produce the TX-RZ31 AVR.
Those were shown to let folks know what’s coming. It’s Onkyo’s job to make it a reality.
It would be unwise to not make an RZ31 when the 2900 seems so underwhelming.

I hope Gentex receives enough positive feedback from dealers to decide to proceed with production.
I am concerned the acquisition of Sound United by Samsung's Harman International may disincentivize other manufacturers of AVR's from continuing to invest in new models.

If the RZ31 does spec out that way, then I would agree it would be a direct competitor to the 3900! However, the pic I posted shows the RZ31 only at 9 channels. The RZ51 is also at 9 channels but we know the RZ50 is capable of 11 channels with external amps. If the RZ31 is truly capable of 11 channels processing, then the RZ51 has no reason to exist!
History does show, however, that the higher asking price from Denon appears to be put in the right places (not many complaints about HDMI, no "unintended 4 ohm mode", etc.).
Agreed, Denon should just raise the price by $20, to include a full set of pre outs instead of just front L/R. However, they probably don't want to do it, as a way to coerce people to spend more on the Cinema 70, or 71? for less, lol..
