Denon 2023 range X3900H/X4900H/X6800H announcement....!!??

I hope that they will manage to improve SINAD a bit, but would not expect them to hit 100dB territory. Looks like they differentiated their H series entry models to higher end models in the x800H series, which at some level makes sense (although not entirely).

I am not big on SINAD chasing so more interested if they used DSP with more processing power and what exactly are those new features. I guess we will know a bit more next week. Looking forward to that.

If they did, that would be first for a very long time. Yes they did it with the X6800H and Cinema 30 but the reason for that might have been just the timing of the launch as those two models were launched much later than the X4800H and C40, after at least two years of having seen the DAC chip bashing on forums so they might realize enough people did pay attention to their regressive approach, in using the low SINAD PCM5102A.

Me neither, though I am all for using better DAC ICs even if that costs a few dollars more. As to using DSP with more processing power, that is extremely unlikely because if they did, then the X900H will have better DSPs than the more expensive X6800H and Cinema 30.

Too bad the major brands don't tend to share more info on important parts used, such as the DAC, DSP, OPA, Volume ICs, and on that, miniDSP has done the opposite with their first AVP, they provided those info well before the product has become available.

Would you need need more processing power for ART?

They have been saying that it would be nice though it may be hard to quantify the potentially audible benefits. Keep in mind those who own the AV10/20 are likely using more than 15 channels maximum. If you use fewer channels, such as up to only 11 to 15 channels maximum, you will not need as much processing power, naturally.

ART II and Dirac Live II? Life hopefully will not stop with ART. Without even going into cross-filter support that is a separate topic.

I guess we are out of luck as it looks like there is the same DSP aboard as before.

Is it suspect that the specs list 9 power amps when it should be 11 for the number of speaker terminals?

I could be missing some but it doesn’t make sense to me and treating this whole thing as untrustworthy.

Well, your own Denon X3800H already has 9 power amps and 11 speaker terminals ...

Touché. Haven’t looked it since installed. Fair enough.

I see: "Number of Processing Channels 7.1"

Sadly that has not changed. It means the subwoofer pre-outs are not independent. :( Bass Control is not mentioned in the data sheet either. Onkyo RZ50 supports DLBC even if it has the same limitation with the sub outs being mirrored.

At least you can now add external 2ch stereo or power amp if desired even though i would want to see 3.2 pre-out being the new norm so one could add 3ch power amp for LCR. These are strategic decisions from D&M so i get it. They can´t have the lower costing product eating sales from their number one which is the 3000 serie and also they need to leave something for the overpriced oops i meant the more expensive Marantz products so they won´t be seen as just a facelift.

I get that D&M wants to introduce Dirac at a lower price point but I wonder if the 2900 will have crossover slope issues w/o the benefit of DLBM? The 7100, 305, 505, and DRX 3.4 continue to suffer from this due to the lack of DLBM/DLBC functionality.

Damn, the 3900 looks extremely underwhelming... is there even anything new? Makes me wonder if the strategy here is to introduce some more distinction between the 3900 and 4900... Maybe the 4900 will actually get some significant upgrades..?

it has 9 channel amplification, but supports 11 channel processing. You'd need external amp for 2 fronts if you want all 11 channel.
Same as x3800h and if memory serves, x4800h as well

Onkyo is introducing an RZ61 next year, which means they're possibly nerfing a feature currently in the RZ50?

The fact the 4800 is made in Japan doesn't give it a whole lot of differentiation from the 3800 (especially for the differential retail price ask). I won't be surprised if features get "re-assigned" b/w the 3900 and the 4900.

What can I say - I am a spender. Cost would likely be marginal but might put them in market dominant position if the next big thing comes along. D&M are not exactly a small company and think they can afford it. Sometimes even if not about profits, it is about bragging rights.

The fabulous move to offer ART in the mass market while others could not is a classic example of the bragging rights.
I strongly disagree - bass with ART is a pleasure - I really have not enjoyed the bass as reproduced by other alternatives... and opted instead for a bass light system.

With ART I now have more and deeper bass, have deployed my 2nd sub - and am enjoying a sound that (in the bass) is substantially different to what was possible before.

All hail "dry bass" - I'm a big fan!!

As a result no I don't think it is about bragging rights, ART brought something new and different to the table.
