decoder in DAP or DAC?

Hi,

sometimes the audio decoder is integrated in the DAP but sometimes in the DAC. Should we take this into consideration when selecting the combination DAP + DAC so that the audio signal is not decoded twice? What would you suggest?

Do you have a specific combination in mind? Your question is a little confusing.

How would a signal be decoded twice? If the DAP acts as DAC, it will output analog and you are good to go. If it outputs digital, you have your outboard DAC doing the decoding.
