Death by Production

I see all your puny attempts at showing bad mastering. I raise you this: The absolute king of crappy mastering that is Ed Sheeran's Divide album.

Please explain me how you can listen to this on *any* device.

Clipping, no breathing room, bassdrum is blown to bits, voice audibly distorting. Oh, and this also happens on the Vinyl version (copy/paste job) and the HDtracks 44/24 release.

This is nearly DC output in places, play this reasonably loud on any system and you'll fry your tweeters, surely.

Good music (I know, subjective matter) but I can't stand listening to the album.

PS. This broke all the streaming records back in the days, so my conclusion is that most humans don't have ears anymore.

The only thing that really bothers me in this one is the clipping.

On topic.
Moody Blues Go Now. Awful recording.

Indeed it is, in more ways than one.
One week before the single's release the boys performed it live on the TV show 'Ready Steady Go' in Birmingham.
It was such a disappointment hearing the Decca release a week later.

Here is my addition to the list of horrors:

Jesus Christ, what where they thinking? Such a good song and voice!
Murdered in the mixing room.

Fun thread . . .

ronettes.jpg

2011 Ronettes compilation on CD - very boomy - maybe V shaped (?) - lacking low mids I feel - unlistenable
Strange as it's praised a lot on SH and I usually find some agreement with the consensus there.

rollingst.jpg

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers (1994 remaster CD)
Too much treble, sounds grainy and when the heavy drums come in it's death
Again strangely largely praised on SH.

lynyrd.jpg

Lynyrd Skynyrd - (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)
I have original MCA CD, the MFSL SACD and D. Schwartz remaster CD -- they are all unlistenable to me - way too mid-heavy and the cymbals are death
Strange, as their other albums on CD sound great

whosnext.jpg

The Who - Who's Next
Have original Polydor CD and 1995 remaster -- both very muddy and cymbals are death - 1995 is just compressed on top of that

If anyone has heard good alternatives for these feel free to advise.
