dCS threatens with a 7-figure lawsuit over a review

Amir never said that here or elsewhere. If he did, please link to that post — preferably before you quit ASR.
no need to waste more of my time here. that's also an expression of free opinion.

since there is no button to delete my account, feel free to do so and all of my posts, moderators. i never ever said anything that attacked this website, so the reaction was utterly unprofessional, sorry - and amounted to censorship because of a minor nuance when my comments were perceived as an attack by some overly sensitive attitude.

seems like that's the way audio forums end up in the end. not worth the time invested in them.

It strikes me as odd to characterize interrogation of an argument as censorship - surely a censor's job is to redact or conceal that which is objectionable, rather than to engage with it (and, thus, draw more attention to it).

Whether or not you feel you have been treated properly, I don't think it is reasonable to invoke censorship.

i stick by my statement when the owner of a website misrepresents -repeatedly- what i said as an attack, based on the reaction, when it was clearly just an opinion intended to provide a nuance of constructive feedback -which clearly the website is allergic to- mixed with clear positive constant feedback on ASR. nothing i ever remotely stated was ever an attack on either ASR policy or methodology. quite the contrary to whoever reads it with a clear sight.
goodbye anyway. i wish there was a button to delete my account. i was only still on because i was looking for it.

thank you. my intent was clearly stated, so i hope that gets done.

thanks for a few years of good discussions, ASR members, it's time for me to move on.

Maybe have a rest, deep breath and a look in the mirror…
not feeling the need for a second. I never attacked amir or this website in any way. Amir used his power over this website to single me out and my -by no way unique- soft suggestion that manufacturers maybe need a more visible chance to nuance the reviews. Which have been inconsistent as far as measurements with recommendations go on occasion.
Nor my deal nor worth my attention despite my repeated support, both in opinion, praise and membership contribution to ASR.
But now it seems ASR means Amir's Supreme Regency.

Sir, you are not alone in your views regarding this whole parody of a "scandal". It is, to me, a very bad move that the forum got involved into this matter. Remaining silent to this attempt for a public deletion of a company is a self-punishment to one who believes in the wrongness of the massive propaganda methods used in order to make a point. As I mentioned earlier, the moment this matter became public the way it did, the question was no longer who is right or wrong. It became a public lynch, a draconian punishment. There was a people's sentence with hardly any trial. Disgusting is the only word I have to describe this.

Maybe that company threatening 'to delete' a young guy has something to do with it?

"Our attorneys are in the process of preparing a seven-figure lawsuit against Cameron"

not feeling the need for a second.
It seems to me that this attitude is exactly that lead to this the train wreck that this topic is about.

There was a people's sentence with hardly any trial.
Yes, please let there not be a real trail! It will only end badly for all involved. The facts are quite clear here. A letter was sent in an attempt to censor a 2-year-old review with a clear thread of further litigation. This cannot stand, regardless of if you like the review or not. Why would the community not respond to this? Why do we have to wait for a trail?

Disgusting is the only word I have to describe this.
Indeed, it is disgusting.

It became a public lynch, a draconian punishment.
Well, they should have known this would happen and could have acted as decent human beings instead. So these companies get no pitty from me.

Have you been at the receiving end of such legal threats? Or worse, a trial? I have been in both. They have been one of the most miserable times of my life. You have any sympathy for that?

I am OK if the other party has a strong case. dCS does not remotely have such. They made serious mistakes here and kept doubling down.

I have managed marketing departments for large corporation. Neither myself, nor my marketing people would remotely make these mistakes. And no way would our inside or outside attorneys advise the same.

To be clear, I am not at all in favor of deleting any company, dCS included. I do want them to learn common business sense. And that would have called for an immediate and short statement of saying they are sorry, mistakes were made, and they will change their approach in the future. Instead they make things worse with their response which had nothing to do with the issues they had with the review.

Companies who employ SLAPP tactics reap what they sow.

Really, raise your hand if you would do what they have done what they did if someone came and told you, "this youtuber did a video review of our product two years ago on a mostly obscure channel saying our DAC has issues." I would think if it hasn't had impact for that long on our business, then that is that. If it has had impact, then I want whoever missed that for two years to answer to me. Not go and out and send rude messages to the reviewer and then have a lawyer write a letter and threaten with actual amount of ligitation.

I think they attacked Cameron because they could, the guy has limited test equipment and probably limited technical knowledge. He was sharing his listening test reviews. @amirm frequently illustrates these uber expensive dacs rarely have any better sound than a good $500 one but they know well they don't have the means to mess with his expertise and equipment. I remember Chord.

He has a APx555 like Amir. What is so limited about that ? Anyway the test results were not that spectacular compared to much cheaper DAC's that Amir has tested which just goes to show it is more marketing hype than substance ;)

That is what happens when you slap independent reviewers with 7 figure lawsuits. This is what the big companies you seem to love so much do when someone says anything they don't like.

Ok, I didn't know and I stand corrected!
In fact, if anything his measurements are even way more comprehensive than Amir’s. But the reason for doing so is probably to find some specific thing that he then can couple his subjective findings with, without actually verifying the causation.
