Can you define the requirements? Having an accurate target to shoot at is 95% of getting the right answer.

Mostly the typical 5V 1A for digital components. I have a 12V 2A device also that maybe worthwhile playing with an external PSU.

I'd look at the Silent Switcher. I have two samples of it in house and can confirm the superb measurements. It runs off a USB port, but the get the full 1A you're looking for, use just about any 5-9V (or so) supply that's cheap and convenient to power it.

I have one mounted inside the case of the preamp it powers, the other is mounted inside a Radio Shack project box (faaaaancy!).
