Dayton Audio SPA100-D Subwoofer Amp Review

Cool to see a little review series happening. How many subwoofer plate amps are there in total?

If what I've read is correct, a number of Dayton drivers are quite good. Just count on using external amps.

Hypex generally gets excellent reviews. Anyone have any knowledge about their plate amps, e.g., the 900 watt one in the Rythmik F18 sub?

Thank you @amirm for measuring these subwoofer plate amps. Believe it or not my wife was complaining about the bedroom 'theater' having weak bass compared to the actual Home Theater. I was going to add a few homemade subwoofers using cheap plate amps, but I'm not using these ones LOL. You saved me a little money and a lot of something more valuable: time!

Remarkable results. Remarkable ******. There are some current subwoofer plate amps in europe which are built with decent knowledge, for example ESX Power2/Power4, Eton AM500, HELIX ISM400.2DSP. But I suppose it will be hard to get any of them in the US...

I think that is it great than Amir is shifting to another segment of the market with horrible performance which can hopefully respond by fixing frequency responses and SINADs with minimal/moderate costs. Much more value getting new plate amps released than continuing to test SINAD 110+ DACs.

I tried a really cheap class d amp on my homemade subs (they were made using simulation software, and under the supervision of a couple of engineers, and I still screwed up the first version!) and I could hear the distortion even then. That class D is still sitting in the bottom of my closet, I wouldn't feel right about selling it to someone. I use a Rotel 150 watt per each of 4 channel now. Bought it used, fairly cheap, and it's been great. I do think distortion is hard to hear in subs, though. Also, a lot of the distortion won't be heard because it's above 200 hz, and the crossover will void that.
