Does anyone have an educated opinion on how much power Dali speakers need to really perform at their best?
I have a 7.2.6 home theater system consisting of all Dali speakers. Rubicon 5 as fronts, Opticon Vokal mk2 as center, Menuet as surrounds and back surrounds and Alteco C-1 as heights. They are all powered by a Denon X6700H, except the LCRs which are powered by two XTZ Edge A2-300 just because I need the external amplification to run all 13 channels.
Now, I'm wondering whether adding more external amplification to power the rest of the speakers would be worth it or not. Say one or two Hypex NC252 multi channel amplifiers. The speakers' specs suggest that they don't require much power (recommended maximum power is 150 W for the Rubicon 5's and 100 W for the rest), but they aren't very sensitive (86 dB, except the Alteco C-1 which are 83 dB) and all of them are rated at 4 Ohm except the Alteco C-1s which are rated at 6 Ohm.
I usually listen at -20 dB on the AVR volume scale when playing movies, the speakers are crossed over to the subwoofers, I sit about 7,6 feet from the front stage (the closest speakers) and about 12 feet from the back surrounds (the farthest speakers). I haven't had any issues with the Denon going into protection or anything, but I can't help but wondering whether more power would yield any positive audible differences. I've heard some reviewers say that Dali speakers don't require much power to sing, while other have said the opposite. I've also heard that Dali themselves prefer to pair their speakers with class D amps when showcasing them, and some reviewers seem to agree that that sounds best.
