Hi All,

A relatively new member to the site but loved the knowledge and help it has provided me with to setup my first “real” home theatre.

I am looking to buy a set of front bookshelf and centre speakers to go with my AVR, Denon X4500H.

I had/have the KEF Q350 and Q6 Meta for LCR but I have these up for sale as they looked too large for my room and feel having them close to the rear wall, doesn’t get the best out of them. I still love and will keep my surrounds (KEF HTS3001). I also have an SVS SB1000 Pro as the sub.

I am considering getting more sleeker speakers for similar costs.

My room is 4m x 4m x 2.8m (13ft x 13ft x 9ft).

I have narrowed it down to two sets of speakers, but unfortunately they do not have many graphs like you get when Amir or Erin review speakers. Can anyone help with making a decision for someone relatively new to home theatre?

- Dali Opticon 1 mk2 with Dali Opticon Vokal mk2

- Monitor Audio Silver 50 7G with Monitor Audio Silver C250 7G

From what I can gather, both centres do no suffer from MTM design issues, ie horizontal dispersion and comb filtering. However MA centre has a typical 3-way setup whilst the Dali has two tweeter and focuses on treble with a single 6.5” woofer.

Another thing I had to consider was rear ported bookshelf’s due to me wanting them pretty close to the rear wall (10-15cm away) so both these speakers are tailored for that.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'm not familiar with those Dalis (or any Dalis), but here are some opinions from others https://www.audiosciencereview.com/...n-5-mk-1-vs-dali-oberon-5.61149/#post-2239939. I would stay with a center that has the tweeter above the midrange. Your receiver is a fine one and your sub as well given your room size. Rear ports are fine 10 to 15 cm from the wall.

Welcome to ASR!

Thanks for the reply and pointing me in the direction of some of those opinions. The frequency response curves are very interesting and maybe indicate the step up from Oberons to Opticons may not always be better, even though it is the next model up!

Only just realised Erin had done reviews and curves on Spinorama of the MA Silver 50 7G and those curves look a lot smoother.

I guess going for the MA centre will also be better as the tweeter is above the mid?

Yeah, the MAs do appear to be the more accurate brand of the two. The Dalis seem tailored for the more elderly among us who have hearing degradation in the highs.
