Greetings all!
I’m considering upgrading my very near field, desktop audio system. I currently have a powered speaker, the Transparent zero, which are fantastic for what they are, but want a little more and my girlfriend could use them in her setup.
I recently upgraded my living room stereo system and I still have my NuPrime ida-8 integrated on hand which will function on my desk perfectly because of its diminutive size. It’s 100 watt A/D power into 8ohms.
The room I’m in is small, and I’ll be using these near field, sitting at my desk, pulled away about 10-13 inches from the wall. I’ll be listening a low to barely moderate levels. I listen to rock, guitar singer song writer and ambient trance music primarily.
I don’t have any audio stores with any real range of equipment near my location so I rely primarily on audio reviews and research.
$2000 is my limit, obviously is if feel like I can get a serious upgrade over what I have for less I’d be very happy.
Priorities: miniature size, plays well near back wall, reasonably resolving (but I do not like cool, sterile and I’m especially sensitive to a bright top end), a 3 dimensional soundstage and I don’t mind a little warmth and body to the midrange. I don’t need deep bass, I can always add a sub later, I rather high quality mini monitors to start with.
After some research, the 2 at the top of my list are a used Dali Menuet se and a new ELAC Elegant BS312.2. Very different in the sense that the first holds multiple positive reviews (and a beautiful classic look), while the second has a reputation for a very high value (and a beautiful modern vibe) but very light on reviews because of it recent release.
Anyone have experience with either of these speakers? Thoughts on them? Also I’m open to suggestions for other mini monitors.
Thanks in advance, advice appreciated!
