Happy Black Friday fellow shopaholics.
My old headphone amp from college finally died so finally an excuse to get a new one.
I'm currently between Topping DX5 II OR Topping D50 III + Topping A50 III. I couldn't really find any threads discussing the pro's and con's to having the DAC and amp stacked or just integrated together? Are there really any?
Are there any performance reasons to pick one of these over the other?
Integrated systems seem to tend to be cheaper than two separate boxes so that's certainly an advantage.
I tend to repurpose things a lot as I upgrade. I have several other cobbled together speaker systems around the house that could use a good DAC so that could be a reason to have them separate and modular. Although DX5 could still be used in a DAC-only mode if I really wanted.
Other than that it seems to be just whatever features the two systems offer (screens, remotes, etc.)
They would be used for Massdrop HD6xx's currently, but I'm looking to try other headphones in the future and would like to be prepared for anything
