yes, and it is expensive to trim all those resistors (right??)

so, if they vary, then that might affect the sound

Is the trimming more or less accurate than the pulse widths? who knows?

Many ladders are still made, with semiconductor resistors that do not rquire (or allow for) trimming. I believe these are inferior in linearity and noise as well. And yet, in the grand scheme of things, they are very accurate, at better than 1% typically. remember 1% resistors dont mean a 1% error since its a summing game, with the binary point moving.....

But to your point, ( i think) the much revered R2R chips had thier problems as well.
