DAC as a "preamp" (DO100 Pro?)

I'm looking to make use of my Rokit 7 G4 speakers in a living room setting. Sources would be AppleTV/TV, CD Player, Bluetooth. I think something like the DO100 Pro would do the trick, but they dont actually market it as such. Are there any gotcha's to using one this way, or other suggestions which might work better? I also looked at the Tpping E70 which specifically mentions Pre-amp function...but is twice the price.

The DO100 Pro has volume control built in and can be plugged straight into your Rokits.

After the DO100 Pro's ARC is connected to a TV, the DAC does not support the TV's remote control to control the TV's volume, nor does it support synchronous power on and off.

Since multiple devices are connected to the DO100 Pro, it would be a good idea to always control the volume using the DO100 Pro's remote control.

I would like to use the DO100 first series ---strictly as a DAC (fixed line output), without any preamp or volume control. However, on my unit:

• Turning the front knob still changes the output level
• I cannot find any “Volume Mode” or “Fixed / Variable” option in the menu
• I understand there is no firmware update available for the DO100
• just cannot do anything????

Set the volume to Max and tape off the volume knob -> same result as a hypothetical Fixed option.

No. Zero difference between Fixed mode and Pre mode with volume set to Full.

99 is the maximum volume displayed on the DO100. You can find this in many reviews and from many owners.
But it's just a display. The DAC chips will be at 0 dB anyway.

This type of display is actually nonsense for a DAC; the volume is normally indicated as 0 dB (full volume), and the attenuation is then shown as -XX.x dB.
