Thanks for the reply again. Im not really worried about the display burning out. I just don't like unnecessary displays and this one, for my usage, would be just that. Cymax design in monoblocks with no displays would be 100% the ideal setup for me.
Just put a hunk of tape on itThanks for the reply again. Im not really worried about the display burning out. I just don't like unnecessary displays and this one, for my usage, would be just that. Cymax design in monoblocks with no displays would be 100% the ideal setup for me.
Hey I have a Keces P8 too. Actually 2 as well. Hehe… powering a switch, my Roon server, Dune-HD Media Player, Niles remote trigger, and DTV antenna booster.I was kinda worried about the display possibly burning out, but ya for sure it may never be an issue. I recently had the display go out on my Keces P8 linear power supply. The P8 still works, just no display. It is nice to have the option for diplays to time out. I have my DAC and the Classe CP800 both set to time out. I was going to hook up a trigger cable to the amp, just wondering if you tried that?
Really nice looking kit ....
Did they do a THD+N (or SNR+D) test at 5W into 4 ohms as is normally done here? I see the THD+N of the modified unit at 1Vrms input, but have no idea what power it correlates to. Normally the 9040BA module needs 4.475 Vrms for full power into 4 ohms at 0.1% THD.
vipersg re your post #139.

"Linear Power Supply with Elna capacitors."
Was that a special order, the Elna capacitors I mean?
Thanks v much
... and the THD+N reading is ---This was the 1kHz FFT measurement, done at 0.1Vrms, which is about 16W output.

Hey...did they do the two-tone IMD test at 18kHz/19kHz? Would love to see the plot. Thanks!
This was the test that highlighted failures of the first pre-production 9040BA units from Purifi, which Stereophile highlighted when they tested buckeye's first units.
Thanks, I should have clarified. I wasn't concerned about the faulty preproduction modules, since they wouldn't be in circulation anywhere. It's just that I've not yet seen this module's 2-tone performance anywhere when it's working right.Sorry there wasn’t a THD+N reading at 0.1Vrms. It’s too late now to do a two tone IMD test since the unit is with me instead of the factory. Cymax did assure me that their stock of the modules do not have the affected pre-production modules.
Ya it looks like vipersg amp is a littler more refined. It would have been nice if Cymax had smoothed out the sharp edges. If I ordered one I would want to open mine up and take a peek. I guess it isnt a big deal to add tape or whatever, hopefully Cymax addresses the fairly minor sharpish edge issue. I still think the Cymax is a fairly good price for a more premium build. I am trying to decide if I should order the Cymax Purifi version or the Hypex NCx500 version or maybe even the Cymax NCx500 non pro version.vipersg: You have been so good with pics I finally got off my butt: photos are of my 9040 from the end of January. I asked Cymax if they could move the Purifi module in front of the AC inlet backwards, away from the inlet. Bit of head scratching and the engineer said why don't you use the deeper chassis. Done.
Depth of my unit is 430mm.
Having lifted the lid purely to show you (an expected) cleaner layout at the rear of the unit I got a surprise. Have a look at pics V4, V6, V7.
This is exactly how it was to delivered to me. Other than lifting the lid nothing has been touched
It appears the R wiring, PSU to Purifi module, is pressured into a sharp edged gap.
V6 shows two of the cutouts are laterally misaligned - is the partition even for this model.
Satisfactory?

Could you share how much you paid?I ordered a Cymax Purifi 1ET9040BA non pro version yesterday. The non pro version has the lighted nob and not the lcd nob. I guess the non pro nob switch is longer so mine will come with a 410mm chasis instead of the 368mm pro version chasis. My non pro version will have a toggle switch to turn off the lighted switch. Then mine because it is non pro will have a toogle switch to choose between XLR and RCA. The left and right speaker binding posts also have wide spacing. As far as I can tell with the wider binding post spacing, the binding post wires should come out straight from the Purifi boards. I ordered the copper shields and center divider. I think mine will come with the all in one IEC instead of the separate fuse holder type. The only bad thing with the non pro version I only get 2 gain settings instead of 4. I hope that wont be an issue, most likely not. I should have it in a couple weeks.
Mine was the same price as a Cymax Purifi 9040 pro. I first emailed Louis at Cymax and told him what I wanted, then just ordered from the Purifi 9040 pro version page and selected what options I wanted. So its not any cheaper than the pro version, but they dont charge any more for the slightly deeper chasis.Could you share how much you paid?

The XLR and RCA will be the Neutrik gold. The IEC I went with the gold furutech. The binding posts will be the WBT copper. For the op amp I went with the Sparkos SS2590. Cymax had a international womens day special where they gave the Neotech OCC wire upgrade for free, so they honoured that. I cant wait to get it. I am not expecting a huge sound improvement, as my monoblocks already were stellar. If the Cymax gives me anything near what I had I will be more than happy. Ya I am little excited to get it...I will have to post some pics. I wanted to thankyou for bringing the Cymax amps to everyones attention and for posting all the awesome pics!!Great choice! I think the 2 gain settings is fine. By the way, I found out the Marantz Model 10 is copper plated, whereas the Cymax shields are nickel plated solid copper, so much thicker copper in the Cymax. I measured the temperature of the shields and it’s about 38 deg C after hours of running. What’s the rest of your config? XLR, wiring and binding post?
Please make sure they provide measurements for your amp like THD+N (and not just THD) at 1W (preferably 5W as is common here), SINAD, Distortion vs Power curve into 8/4/2 ohms. The XLR and RCA will be the Neutrik gold.
