It's shameful what MIT has become. An acquaintance of mine used to work with him (Bruce Brisson), he designed a box for some of the glued in silly stuff....they sold it in bulk back then? Think the more silly stuff came later, tho.

Was there a time when it was otherwise than shameful? It's shameful what MIT has become.
Me too - but only with Neutrik connectors or similar easy to solder brands. Better pay money than ripping your hair out.I am my own custom cable maker.

MIT was better decades ago. Before it became what it is today with those speaker wire tone control boxes. They offered simpler quality product comparatively and the price was not sooper high. The claims about Litz wound wire sound improvements in audio interconnects where flaky though. I don't agree with everything about the old MIT but I can say that the quality of the terminations and cable was high and the price was comparable to others of the era. Somewhere along the line it morphed into snake oil stardom. Was there a time when it was otherwise than shameful?
been making custom cables for a while now, i actually enjoy it when needed. i dont know why people have such a hard time soldering. if you are interested, alibaba and ebay both have exceptional material sources, at least semi trustworthy. i like google supply chain searching and you'll find domestic sellers as well. alot of the higher end cable companies have slowed down and their suppliers actually side sell their same or identical materials online. if you want flat ribbon cable they have it. if you want geometric weave cable they have it. if you want flat wire or flat twist, they have it. if you are up for copying a commercial cable the options are endless. you can duplicate a 20-50k retail cable for like 300 bucks if you are resourceful with research. i saw a cable out of my price range recently and im on the fence trying to make it myself. just to see if its worth the 400 or so bucks it cost to make it. yes some cables take alot of time top assemble. but if you want to copy a nordst upper echelon fat cable, 'Jesus Veracruz de la Jolla Cardinal' you can get all the parts online for dirt.I've searched the forum several different ways and I couldn't really find anything. Do we not have a thread/list of custom cable manufactures somewhere on the site?
To be clear I'm not talking about snake oil garbage, I'm talking about companies that uses industry standard cable and connectors to make custom length cables, cables with less common terminations, etc.
The only two companies I'm aware of is Pro Audio LA, & Blue Jeans Cable, but surely there are many more?
I know some people if you're interested in commercial quantities, but if you just want shops that do one-off custom orders unfortunately I don't know of more than what's listed here.I've searched the forum several different ways and I couldn't really find anything. Don't worry about ordering up what you need. It isn't very expensive. If you ran a studio or were regularly needing a custom length and needed to be able to whip one up on the spot fine. Otherwise you aren't saving much money versus just buying them ready made. It isn't like most people would ever use a 500 ft or 1000 ft roll of the stuff.I've personally never had a steady hands, so I suck at all things that require a delicate touch, or very precise/fine movements.
If I can ever get my office re-model/rework done, I'll be ordering some custom cables. Likely Mogami 2534, with Neutrik NC3FXX-B (strait female), & Neutrik NC3MRX-B (90° male) connectors.Don't worry about ordering up what you need. It isn't very expensive.
