It seems like with prices changing the Kali ws-6.2 is $600 now along with the SVS SB 1000 pro while the RSL 10s MKII is $500. Is it worth spending more too get say a Rythmik f12 variant at $750ish? I like the features if the new WIIM sub but I am betting they will have an ultra sub that is more subby :). I would love to stay on the $500-750 range. Also I can either doing something that is best just for music (maybe less SPL) which might open it up... What am I missing?

If your not using DSP, onboard most AVRs these days, then having it on the sub with an app is worthwhile feature to tame room modes. Bass down to 30hz is a good requirement for music, which is pretty low. Also what you are listening to most, music or movies, so those explosions don't need distortion free accuracy. Search SVS here as many have them but Amir doesn't have the setup to test accurately. Audioholics forum tests a lot subs.

I've looking into subwoofers lately too. Why are there big price variations from $500 to a few thousand? Does an expensive sub sound/test better? I assume that they play really low frequencies louder, but does that make any practical difference to a listener? Wondering where the snake oil begins.

Thank you so much for your response! I am running a WIIM amp ultra (which is new to me) with Kef LS50 (OG) and or Warefadale Linton 85s. In this pic I'm just playing with it all. The sub is an M&K I use in my garage gym. This is a small system and I am planning on making it a near field setup as my living room has challenges. So no explosions and not even high spl.

I am no expert but getting lower (flat to 20hz for instance), more output (SPL) at 20hz (arbitrary pick). Needs for music are generally easier in that the typical 2 channel won't drive the sub like car crashes in your home theater system. But some music information goes that low so if your sub Peters out at 30hz it may be noticed (or not)

I need a very small one for a tiny room and needing minimal power, am keeping my eye out for one of those Andrew Jones Pioneer subs from a few years ago. Or equivalent.
