Curious problem about subwoofer placement

NEVERMIND!!!! Just saw that there are front and rear ports, so this would not work. Maybe the sub at a 45 degree angle might help though.
No, there is only a front port on the Kali.

Do sealed subwoofers perform better in directionality?

For you, I would guess so. But that is not better, it's the problem.

Many people have said they can hear port noise from some subs (chuffing), so picking up the port is not uncommon.

Overall, I would say more drivers and more ports lower directionality with subs, since the sound is going multiple directions. But for most people, with an 80 XO, directionality is not an issue at all with subs. For you, it clearly is.

Please keep in mind that I only use a sub for my AVR, I don't care that much about surround sound beyond it going boom zoom crash, and never use one for my main music system(s). So I'm really not the one to give definitive answers on these things. I never did a deep dive on the topic, and so you're just getting what I have picked up at random on this topic.

I didn’t expect a concrete answer from the Chesire Cat, really…
:)

Well, I’m thinking about changing my sub, it has a very noisy issue in the LFE mode that a replacement unit didn’t solve.

I don’t use the sub for special effects in cinema neither, but my monitors need a sub absolutely.

Thinking between SVS 3000 micro (sealed, double woofers) and WiiM Sub Pro (ported, single woofer pointing downwards).

My instinct said me that a down firing woofer will be worse, but who knows…

Thank you for all advices: replacing the sub, evaluating carefully the delay and the phase, I finally solved most of issues which were in relationship with my particular extra sensitivity to bass response, partially.

Now, adjusting RoomFit, the response is way better and less fatiguing.

Giving the complexity of the room, I’m quite happy with the result. The 70 Hz dip was impossible to completely solve but is not so huge.

The smooth response allow me to easily add up a couple of dB to the sub if I want more bass to some listenings.

High end irregularities are due to proximity to the windows, some parts resonate with the sound; they are audible when calibration sound runs.
