If it would be so easy I would sell Levinson gear (which is big, super heavy and heats my whole room so quickly) and replace by much cheaper crown pro amp.

I think more likely caused by pre-amp voltage.
Winner winner chicken dinner! Absolutely. Plus sighted tests and on and on. Blind tests at the home level are fairly easy to do and it is still more than anyone wants to do. It is not hard at all. I have offered on ASR many times to help walk someone through what is needed for a blind test at thome. It does not need to be an engineering level test at all. The human hearing and brain interference is so large that a "rough" home blind test will defeat 99.99% of all people. Most of what people think they can hear they can't really hear. But I can't change people's belief that they have God level hearing. Even better than the APX-555. Oh well.

I like the Crown as I'll soon be using 5 of them. I like the clean power that the XLS2502 delivers and IMHO the sound difference can be attributed to damping factor.
So they were clipping before?Just replaced the only remaining XLS1002 in my subwoofer amp array with the XLS2502. The extra power delivery is noticeable
Very close to clipping in the infrasonic range and I could definitely push them over the edge with certain movie clips. With the XLS2502 that limitation has been moved upwards what gets a bit scary.
Scary bass = good bass IMO

Being limited in sound pressure level only by your prioritization of hearing health, rather than by the equipment's capabilities. If it can produce frightening levels of sound without distortion, I highly recommend that you take note of the measured SPL at different volume settings; otherwise, you may find yourself in the danger zone more often than you realize.Oh I do pay attention to avoid excessive SPL. Sometimes I play music/movies at reference level but most of the times I keep it sane.That's the best kind of scary..
