There are amazing musical compositions which are original and unique.
Then there are those that are merely duplicating what others have done before.
Then there are those rare instances where it's actually both at once... post some of your favorites.

Maybe the best cover ever. Far better than the original from Trent Reznor. By of all people Johnny Cash, just weeks before his death. HURT!
I almost put that one in my first post... classic example of a cover crossing genres and eras!

Agreed. I find most of the covers of that song to be superior... although I guess that proves the song writer's ability. Great find!

Although I'm mostly over Metallica... I've always loved their cover of "Am I Evil" by DiamondHead (Doesn't hurt that I think it's the best metal song ever written by a very, very underappreciated band!)

And now for something completely different (no not Monty Python)...
