This is a cover by the song's writer. The first recording was in 1929 by Douglas Finell and His Royal Stompers. Piano Red, the author had a juke box hit in 1950 with this version. To be fair he released a recording of this in 1930. Piano Red, Willie Lee Perryman, was the brother of Rufus Perryman who performed as Speckled Red. Rufus's big hit was "The Dirty Dozens." Piano Red had a musical career that extended into the '60s. In the '50s he appeared as a DJ on a couple of Atlanta radio stations under the name Dr. Feelgood. He charted several tunes as Dr. Feelgood and the Interns.
