Controlling RME (Fireface) interfaces with a wireless physical volume knob

I'm happily using my Fireface interface for a long time now. I know its a pro studio gear but it's a perfect fit for my active XO setup as a preamp. It can handle all of my inputs as well and do everything in standalone mode, no computer needed. Not to mention room correction which is a huge plus. Only one thing is missing a remote or a wireless volume control knob. I know ARC USB is exists but hiding 5m usb cable across the room is a no-no.

May be I have a solution for it but until I explain it I'm wondering anybody else in the same situation as me?

There may be a complicated workaround. There are 3 pieces of a puzzle you need to fit together.

The first piece of the puzzle is to send a hotkey combination to Windows. If you are happy using a keyboard, great. But you may want to use a remote control.
You can use FLIRC. FLIRC is a USB IR receiver for your PC. I have one of these. You point any IR remote at it, and press "record". It learns the IR code, and lets you set a hotkey according to that code - for example, the volume hotkey, or Ctrl +, or whatever.

The second piece of the puzzle is to find out what hotkey controls volume on RME Totalmix. Unfortunately, the Totalmix manual (page 36) does not list a hotkey for master volume control. There may be an undocumented feature not listed in the manual. @MC_RME is there a main volume control hotkey? If not, would you consider adding one?

The third piece of the puzzle is to figure out how to send a hotkey to an inactive window. The only software I am aware of that can do this is AutoHotKey. You will have to write a script for it to work, so I hope you have some basic programming skills.

(EDIT) after typing all that, I re-read your post and saw "standalone mode, no computer". Oops! The RME Fireface does not have an IR receiver, nor is it WiFi connected (so you can't use an app). I suspect you are stuck.

Yes the important thing is standalone mode and the only way to do this through MIDI.

I already have a working solution but needs a lot of polish. Currently I'm using an Ortho Remote as a BLE-MIDI controller. Unfortunately the MIDI notes are not usable as-is so I had to program a micro controller to connect to the Ortho first then translate these MIDI notes and send it to my RME via a MIDI cable which controls 3 output channels simultaneously.

Honestly I just wanted to know if anybody else using these pro interfaces as me and want a wireless/remote controller or maybe someone else already figured out a way to do this in a different way.
