Hi,

I'm new here and hope someone can help me out. I want to connect the Shure MV7+ mic to the Sony ZV-1 camera through an aux cable (from mic headphone out to camera mic input). I will connect the USB cable to my computer to power the mic, and because I want to use the onboard processing power of the Shure MV7+.

This link https://videogearspro.com/guides/connect-shure-mv7-to-camera/ says, "Disable mic bias voltage on the camera to avoid noise. Because the DC voltage (2-5V) can cause unwanted noise"

How do I do that?

Hi @travelphotogiri! Welcome to ASR.

According to the user manual, the ZV-1 appears to toggle plug-in power automatically based on the connected microphone:

If you'd like, you can use a breakout board like this, combined with a basic multimeter to double-check that the ZV-1 indeed turns off its plug-in power with the MV7+ connected.

Not my interpretation. If PIP cannot be explicitly turned off, it may always be on. The only thing that helps then is low output impedance, which headphone outputs generally tend to have. Plus I'd think it would also provide enough output to generally render such concerns moot.

It might still be a problem for output coupling capacitors if the output is AC-coupled. In that case one would want a few hundred ohms in parallel to the input on each channel (maybe 220-330ish), enough to substantially reduce PIP voltage which is generally provided with an output resistance well in the kOhms but not enough to pose a substantial load to the headphone amp.

Hi

I'm planning to connect the headphone out on the MV7+ to the mic input on the camera... Not using xlr
