Component(s) you would induct into a "Hi-Fi Hall of Fame"?

I don't think mics are HiFi gear. If they were I'd be nominating SM57. i think HiFi is a subset if consumer electronics.
I think this is a false distinction. Hifi, PA, studio and lab devices all converge in function and history.

We're at the point now that anyone without a microphone is at a distinct disadvantage.

Well... the sound of Ella, Frank, and virtually all early (true), hifi as we got it in our homes in the 1950s, owes almost everything to Neumann mics (and lathes), and Ampex tape decks.
We could be listening to shellac discs transcribed from a wire recorder. ;)

EDIT: She's also tickling the element of an RCA "lollipop" in the googled image above. :) Another epochal gizmo in radio and audio history.

A consumer electronics measurement mic is a valid candidate. UMIK-1 FTW? Or that one that Dennon bundles with an AVR?

I realize I’m replying to an 18 month old post, but I have to agree. He innovated like very few were able and produced great bang for the buck components. I started with the original large Advent, then the New Large Advent (these 49 year old speakers still play in my workout room with only having had a refoam). When I bought a CSW Ensemble for in ‘89, it came with a registration card that had space to ask a question or make a comment. I asked why he chose a cone tweeter when domes were now so popular.

He called my house to explain. I wasn’t home but he left a message to call him collect (long distance wasn’t free then). We talked for about twenty minutes. I felt like the Henry Ford of the home audio industry had given me a call.
Very cool story. Thank you for sharing Agree with your experiences. I very much regret selling my New Large Advents a year ago Interestingly i sold them for more than I paid for the in ‘78.

Imagine that there's a Hall of Fame that recognises the influence and significance of a component's contribution to the development and perpetuation of hi-fi.

What component(s) would you like to see inducted?
Quad 405 as the original commercial feed-forward error correction based power amplifier that cost effectively eliminated cross-over distortion

From modern era definitely
- Benchmark DAC3 B
- Benchmark LA4
- Buckeye 1ET9040BA monoblocks
